What 5th gen camaro will = the GTO?
What 5th gen camaro will = the GTO?
With the 5th gen camaro and the GTO out at the same time, what model of the camaro will equal the power of the GTO.
Will it be:
Base V6
Reg V8 (like the 4th gen Z28)= GTO
Limited High power V8 (like the 4th gen ss)
- or -

As already discussed, the GTO won't have to follow the "Corvette Rule".

the power line up would be this:
Regular V8 Camaro
High ouput V8 Camaro
Base Vette = GTO (some what close in power)
ZO6

I can't see the GTO having more power than than the Camaro since the Camaro is the real competitor to the M*stang. GTO doesn't try to outdo the M*stang, that's the Camaro's job.
Also from what we've been hearing, there will be multiple V8's or power levels for the Camaro.

1) I wouldn't be surprised to see more than one engine in the next gen GTO.
2) GTO will share it's powertrains with Camaro.
3) GTO and Camaro will not be sister cars in the same way that Camaro/Firebird were.
4) There are those at GM that realize that GTO is an intermediate and Camaro is a ponycar.
If they both share the same V8 powertrains....which will be faster? The smaller, lighter ponycar or the larger, heavier intermediate?

I'm not saying there will be 2 differant V8's, but one V8 used two differant ways. Like the LS1 Z28 and LS1 SS. One being the regular V8 and one being a limited, smaller production, higher power.

The GTO will be up agianst a different line up then the Camaro. The GTO will go head to head with the G35, M3, CLK AMG, and other high end performance coupes.
I see the GTO as having more power then the Camaro if they share the same engine.

this is the thing. i don't want some family car to have the same engine as my street bruiser camaro. but, i am guessing that they will load the gto with options and it will be heavy, needing a big engine for decent numbers. (maybe even to compete with the 300C)
i have been saying for a while now (not on this board though) that the new fad in the automotive world is a heavy car. at first it was the heavy suv, but now people fall back on the heavy 4 doors.

what family car? And how the hell do you think the muscle car started? The GTO isnt a family car. The Commoadore, ok. But the GTO? No. And realize that the Zeta sedans will probably have the same V8 found in the Camaro and GTO. Id love to have an Impalla SS next to my Camaro Z and my Solstice GXP.

Camaro's prime competitor will...as always... be Mustang. Mustang will undoubtedly be going even faster in the next few years. Camaro will be right there with it. Camaro and GTO will share engines. Whatever rating games are played...the top Camaro won't be any slower than GTO. In fact, it may be the other way around.
Well, the present GTO can be as fast as a LS1 4th gen. There are guys running low 13's on stock gear. Is it faster then the Cobra? Was the Fbody? The answer to both is no.
There is a difference between speed and strength; The GTO might have more power, but it wont be as fast, but you bring up a good point. While we are on the subject, will the GTO be on a Velite chassis, while the Camaro might end up on a smaller zeta? And if the Mustang goes after the 500hp marker, will the Camaro follow into Vette land? Vette will be faster, but in hp numbers, will the Camaro share the 500hp engine with the Vette just to chase the Mustang? Will GM break the law on that just to say that the Camaro is king?
The GTO will be a more of a car then the Camaro is, just because of the people it attracts. The GTO will be more of teh luxo side and be near the performance cars coming from Europe and Asia. Why cant the GTO be faster then the Camaro? Because the Camaro is going after the Mustang? That makes no sence at all. The GTO can be faster then the Camaro if GM doesnt feel the need to chase the Mustang, which I feel is gunna happen.
