Well I said comprable, the hp/weight ratio is what matters, and the proposed GM powerplants could more than make up for a few extra lbs.

The GT500 has a better power/weight than any F-body ever made, or any GTO, or anything this side of an LS3 Corvette or C5 Z06.

But its still a pig.

C&D tested an 07 Shelby and put it at 3540 lbs.

Doh!

It was a California Special GT that R&T tested. Probably fully loaded.
(over $32000)

3540 it is, then.

Exactly. Outside of straight-line acceleration, power/weight is pretty useless. And certainly weight is the enemy of every performance measure.

Regarding the AC, I would die without it

What about light weight 6.00x14" wheels and 205/60x14 tires. That'd probably save 20 pounds per wheel over an 18"-er.

Pheh.... hah, If GM was serious they would get DYMAG to make the F5 wheels, after all, economies of scale could reduce the price of a set of carbon fiber/magnesium composite wheels (which weigh a svelte 14 lbs for a 19 x 10), right now such a set only cost 8800.00... right fellas????

From what I understand the carbon fiber barrels used on the wheels can take some pretty serious punishment, more so than a comparable aluminum or steel wheel. Michelin, Volkswagon, and Chrysler (through Shelby) have messed around with composite wheels (although they were all plastic) with the Dodge Sheblys actually employing them, DYMAG started producing thier wheels for motorcycles first I believe, long before they started making them for cars. Mosler uses them as well as Callaway and Porsche as well as some others (they have been fitted to Ford GTs)

Don't expecy anything like that from the factory. But expect GM's upcoming larger wheels - like 19's, 20's, even larger maybe - to all be forged, in order to reduce mass. Maybe a forged 20 might only weigh as much as a cast 17 or 18.

lol, I'll take'em, I'm not a big fan of polished or chrome plated wheels, but paint them a nice shade of silver and I'd say hell yeah, figure the combined weight of the DYMAG wheel and a good tire probably around 35 lbs give or take compared to probably 51 pounds give or take for a comparable cast aluminum wheel. Thats a savings of 64 pounds in unsprung weight total for a vehicle.
