The Viper is dead in the sense that its factory -- Conner Ave -- is being shut down for good and development work on the next-gen platform (ZC) has been stopped. Conner Ave's closing was in the UAW contract.

Is it possible they'll come up with a new V10 derived from the upcoming Phoenix V6 program and a new car on a platform that can be built in a larger flex plant and call it "Viper"? Sure. But the existing car as we know it is going away.

From the numbers that I have seen, the GT-R and the Z06 are a quarter-mile ET dead heat. 11.6 @ 121 vs. 11.7 @128 (or 125... I don't remember which).

The point of the above is the following:
It seems the GT-R may have a .1 second advantage in the quarter mile ET department, but the Vette has a decided power-to-weight advantage.

The Vette is hauling that bitch in after the launch like nobody's business.

On a road course, and speaking only to power right now, coming off corners and down straights the Vette should have a decided advantage... AS LONG AS the awd aspect is relatively insignificant. Which may be totally wrong... so I'm just kinda thinking out loud.

so, instead of having its own platform, it mjght move to a different plant to share with other cars. Isn't that what was supposed to happen to the Camaro?

that tsounds a LOT like the current EVO vs STI battle. The STI has more power & less weight, so it accelerates & stop quicker. But the EVO's electronics helps it turn better.

What is happening in the EVO's rear diff is way more than just "electronics" (although it doesn't work without a crapload of software). Go do some research into "torque vectoring" - it's absolutely fascinating stuff!

The GT-R vs. Z06 battle is a study in contrasts, and my guess is that the nature of the course and the skill of the driver will mean everything in determining the winner. This is not a battle that can be determined on paper, that's for sure.

What were we discussing again?

I'm pretty sure they don't have a 4-7 mph difference in trap speed though - which is VERY significant.
