Viper is toast
That's really sad. It sucks that this is happening to our automakers. I remember when Ford, GM, and Chrysler had these test drive car shows where you could go out and beat the crap out of their cars for a day for free. GM even fed you and gave you a t-shirt for free! Now with sales like they are they can't afford these fun little programs anymore. I wish I could just blame people who are buying Toyotas and Hondas but there are alot of factors at play. Hello 1970's vehicle reruns
Yep, too bad they couldn't keep it. I think this is a big mistake--if dev costs were an issue, a return to its barebones roots would have probably been just fine. An American Elise, so to speak.
That's just stupid.
Instead of killing it off, they should have just taken it down market. Keep the engine, make ways to lower costs, develop a less expensive chassis, etc. etc. Like a high 50k price. Killing it off is just dumb.

I think Dodge may also be trying to avoid the Camaro/Vette relationship that Chevy has. With the Challenger coming that is exactly what they would have Challenger/Viper. The Mustang can get whatever it wants because there is no higher sport car model for Ford.
Ford did have the limited run of the GT, but pricing was so far different that the two products didn't compete. That wouldn't be the case with the Challenger/Viper relationship. While one is definitely higher today, the Challenger would steal some sales from the Viper the same way the Camaro could steal some sales from the Vette. While it isn't much, the Viper's productions numbers are already very low.
I think introducing the Challenger was the last straw. Cerebus needs to right the ship. For now, it might make more sense to get rid of the Viper.
