Dont look too far into that. GM did not trademark SS as a name. They merely trademarked a SS Logo style, the current 3 dimensional one on the Camaro SS to be specific. There was a picture of the SS badge on the decklid of a Camaro included. The origin date of its use dates 2009. The news media glossed over all that info.

Has GM's OnStar accidentally confirmed the 2014 Chevy SS

Looks like the OnStar Remote Link app has "SS Performance" listed for 2014 vehicles.

"SS Performance Sedan" maybe?

lol.

My neighbor down the street just got a G8 GXP a couple days ago.

I want one of these even more now. He also has an LS1 GTO with a loud exhaust which he converted to a Monaro. (He's Australian) I wonder if he'll convert the G8 to a Commodore.

That's funny.

Last time I was in Melborne, I saw at least 2 Monaros with GTO front ends, and a common swap is the G8 nose on a Commodore.

As already mentioned, don't read too much into that. GM is protecting the "SS" designation so (for example) some aftermarket shop won't use the name for their creation or manufacture or sell "SS" badges for cars. That's all.

He had them parked side-by-side so I took a pic - but looking at the pic now I've noticed that the G8 has a GT front bumper. It has GXP badges everywhere else though. I wonder what's going on here? I hope he didn't buy it thinking its a GXP and its not. I only peaked inside briefly and I know its an auto which points in the GT's favor. Need to investigate...

Should be unveiled in early 2013;
Limited run for the first year <1000;

1. It will most likely be shown at LA or Chicago.... my money's on LA.

2. Not limited to less than 1000. Gonna be more than that.... A LOT more.

3. LS3 sounds right.

4. I doubt it will reached the showroom with the name SS.

The car is going to be marketed as a performance sedan. Think of the Pontiac G8 GXP that didn't really get into production and you have the gist of the idea. Most likely, the G8 GT will be represented as well.
