Updated Z06 Specs

These quotes come from Harlan Charles, Corvette Product Manager:

* No gas guzzler tax on the Z06. City 16/Highway 26
* Top speed 198 mph. (me: couldn't we get 2 more mph out of it somewhere? )
* Quarter mile, 11.7 @ 125 mph, with a good driver I'm going to put my money on someone getting a 10 second
time slip out of a stock z06.
* 1.04g on the skidpad.
* A competition gray wheel option (Q44) will be available later in the
production schedule.
* The C6 Z06 will have Halogen fog lamps....a first for Corvette.
* The smaller, 3 spoke steering wheel will be standard equipment on the 2006
Corvette.
* The 1LZ and 2LZ option codes were changed from 1SA and 1SB to help
maintain consistency in the Chevrolet lineup. The "Z" signifies the Z06
model Corvette.
* The fender badge will read "505HP."
* The front air scoop is functional.....allows air to enter the area under
the hood for engine bay cooling.
* HUD is standard equipment on the Z06.

No Gas Guzzler on the Z?

And decent mileage, too?

Now we have a car that will beat imports at everything, even gas mileage.

Not always the case. Look at the 550hp 2700lb Saleen S7. It gets 10mpg in city and 17mpg on the highway. And this thing weighs 300lbs less than the z06 and only sports 45hp more. Yet there's a huge difference in mileage.

Gotta hand it to GM. Only they've managed to pull off this feat.

I presume they might actually serve purpose , like alot more light cast on the road . MOST fog light designs are for looks only because they barely cast any light on the road at all .

And yet the 4 cylinder automatic Solstice is supposed to get the Gas Guzzler tax. Gonna be tough to explain this one to the Honda fans.

The auto solstice gets slapped with the guzzler tax? How's that even possible.

No worries about the top speed. A full exhaust and mild cam should give you that last 2mph, and perhaps then some. It be nice if you were right about the 1/4 mile time, but I think you are being alittle optimistic. I think a good driver will so low 11's out of it though; its a strong trap speed.
Looks like the new z06 will match the Vipers skidpad numbers as well.

Actually that wasn't my guess, that was the Corvette product manager's guess. I think we'll just have to wait and see on that one.

EDIT: I also have heard nothing on Solstice getting the gas guzzler tax with an automatic. Why on earth would it use much more gas than any other Ecotec in a Cobalt sedan weighing about the same?

My hope is that Evan Smith will be able to drive it into the high 10s. Notice that he was the same one that got the last Z06s into the high 11s.
