I don't know if "face" is playing a part in this but I will suggest that "face" plays a bigger role in eastern culture and in eastern business culture.

Particularly in Japan.

I betting things are very wierd in the hallways of Toyota at this point.
We'll probably hear of some Toyota exec. committing suicide in the next few weeks.

One thing I noticed is that you never ever hear the word Lexus uttered in this whole situation. The 4 people that died a few months ago in California were driving an ES350.

I noticed that too. That, and the Prius which has been involved in more than one of these incidents.

Which is what I keep reminding my friends and family who keep talking about buying a Lexus (or Toyota).

100% agreed. They've had ample opportunity to fix these problems and instead swept them under the rug. They obviously didn't learn anything from Ford's mistakes.
