....if GM started using Alpine gear in there cars it would be fantastic!
Re: Ugly GM stereos....
Yeah it would! I belive it was Honda that used alpine back in the 80's or was it Nissan. I know Honda has used Pioneer before as well. The stock radio in my Civic wasn't half as bad as the one in my Venture. Just anything but Bose and JVC, and I think GM could do well.
Re: Ugly GM stereos....
I never really thought much about the design of stereos since I put one in my '85 Police 'Stang when I bought it in '86, since I've gone with factory ever since.
That is a good question.... what ever happened to appearence in designing factory car stereos???

Re: Ugly GM stereos....
I just wish more afteramarket companies made DIN and a half HUs. I have the Pioneer one:

and it's ok, doen't look out of place in the car. But I've had the damn thing 4 years, since before I even had my Camaro. I want something new and improved.

Re: Ugly GM stereos....
I'm not sure if thats the same one that I've been seeing in late model GM cars or not. But its pretty cool because it tells you the name of the radio station, what song their playing, the weather and a bunch of other stuff that I wish my Camaro had...It was in an '03 Malibu and a ~'00 Cadillac STS I believe.
Re: Ugly GM stereos....
It's the RDS option in the radio. It's been here in Europe for at least 10 years. A lot of aftermarked companies have been making it for a long time.. .but the US took years to even start using it.

Mitshi use/used Clarion...they aint bad quality wise...still I would stick with Alpine personally.

1. Why the stereo is below the ventilation controls? This is an ergonomic faux pas that most manufactureres corrected a decade ago. Whoops, my bad. The car is upwards of decade old.
2. Why did they put the volume **** at the very bottom of the stereo face, when the stereo itself was already mounted so low?
3. Why should anyone have to accept this sort of crap on a $33K car?

That still dosen't explain:

2. Speak to Blaupaunkt about why the volume **** is so low...you might wanna add Opels to your tirade...they use the same stereo.
3. I thought the car was going for about $29 K now?

Compared to other radios from the big 3 , I think the new(er) GM double din radios look better and fit the interiors fairly well . However , those radios would look way outa place and cheap set in some of GM newer interiors with flush mount ( as opposed to rolled ) interior gaps . I think the radios in the vette , cobalt and G6 is a pretty good looking head unit . GM has so many cars it'd be hard to see them putting a unique radio in each one , thats why you see the same basic radios in each car with a faceplate and backlighting suited for the whatever brand its in .

Hey that looks pretty good, is that a unit that has XM Radio? And if it is do you have it activated? I have the Delphi Sky-Fi unit in my car running through a FM modulator, but I'd love to have a factory intergrated unit.
I don't have a problem with GM/Delco sound systems, I think they should continue the partnership with Bose. Bose is far above most other companies in SQ. The only problem I have is with the displays, I wish they would make larger displays with more info on them.
