Torana is a go????!!!
Re: Torana is a go????!!!
The thread starter says the salesperson said it's a go for '07 and a couple of posts down, someone confirms that he's heard the same rumor also, with some other comments..
Take it for what it's worth.

Re: Torana is a go????!!!
Just a note, when my unkle purchased his holden calais 3 years ago he was talking to the salesman who said the torana was coming in approx. 2007. It really means nothing, the dealers don't get told anything. It is well known that many Holden people want it to happen, the dealers probably do to. So it is probably just wishfull thinking on the salesmans part.

All I know is they better start approving stuff if we are gonna see this car by 07/08. They've had since 02, it's time they step up and act like the biggest carmaker with the potential to be alot better than everyone else out there.
Re: Torana is a go????!!!
Holden is trying to get a "Torana" type car in showrooms within the next 3-4 years. Holden is also the General Motors arm responsible for Asia as well as Australia, and they know the need a Torana type car to compete.
If it were going to be made in Australia, there wouldn't even be a discussion over it. The problem is that it would be made here, most probally at the Wilmington Deleware plant. This means that it's feasibility for the US is a factor.
Naturally, in typical GM fashion, it's being comitteed to death: "Why do we need it, when we have the new G6 and Malibu we just spent money on?" as well as: "The public here don't favor RWD in cars this size. Holden should get a version of our FWD chassis". It sucks, but that's some of the things that's being thrown up and studied.
It takes critical mass to get things moving at GM. The Torana is getting there.

Re: Torana is a go????!!!
Yeah, I would figure that this Torana chassis would run up against Epsilon.
As I see it, Torana could bump out Epsilon from Saab, Pontiac, and some Opel/Saturn. That would leave....Chevy.

The new Chrysler and Dodge LX cars seem to be doing well.
Oh yeah, and there are two little car companies from Germany that sell lots of small RWD cars here, and a Japanese company whose small RWD sedan product is showing up in ever larger quantities.
At least GM has more of a clue than Ford.

Let me start a thread like "A salesman said the next gen Cobalt will be based off the Y-body!!!" and you can go ahead and spread those around the internet too
