Torana=Firebird?

With all the speculation now from the new Torana chassis, and Pontiac being involved in bringing a car to market based on the chassis, what are chances of it being a performance car? I would love for it to be called Firebird if done correctly, but could this be another performance offering from Pontiac?

Also, I'd like to throw this out there as well considering some other points brought up from other threads: If Camaro ( Chevy Performance Coupe) switches over from Zeta to Torana, would there be any overlap from the two cars? That is, will there be a big difference in terms of styling and characteristics to differentiate the two? I bring this up because of the many posts about a Firebird being a clone of Camaro. Would this be the same thing?

Re: Torana=Firebird?

I really wish the general would bring back the firebird. If they do I don't want to be name rape like it looks like DCX is going to be doing with the Cuda, Challenger, and Charger. Keep it a two door with rwd and a v8 availible.

As mush as it is nice to dream, from what ive seen on here it is hard to belive that the Firebird could fit into the mix at pontiac.

Re: Torana=Firebird?

Oh, I'm pretty much resolved to the fact that Firebird won't come back for the foreseeable future, at least in name form. What I'm getting at is that previously the case for a 5th gen Firebird was always downplayed due to the fact it'd be a Camaro clone, and thus not relevant in the market place.

So if the Camaro was to be built off the Torana chassis, and Pontiac is/will be getting a car based off this as well, how would this be done to differentiate the two? Wouldn't it be the same thing?

With everyone from the inside putting their foot down about the Firebirds future, I think its pretty set in stone that the Firebird won't be back for a long time. Which is sad because I also agree that a 2door Torana looking thing would be perfect for the Firebird

Yeah, I'm not interested in a Camaro. I'd wait til 07/08 to get a Bird, but it'll be a Solstice instead it seems.
