Superior Honda Quality in action...

"The side saddle fuel tank design installed in over 10 million trucks - all 1973-87 General Motors full-size pickups and cab-chassis trucks (pickups without beds) and some 1988-91 dual cab or RV chassis - is the worst auto crash fire defect in the history of the U.S. Department of Transportation."
"This is more than twenty times as many fatalities as in the infamous Ford Pinto. Despite a voluntary recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in April 1993 (Attachment B) and an initial defect determination by Transportation Secretary Federico Pena in October 1994 (Attachment C), GM stubbornly refused to initiate a recall."
Now, there was some media attention about this, but I can see why. There was, however, not near the amount of attention given to this as was given to Ford's Pinto or Explorer issues, both of which pale in comparison. In fact, the grand total of all of Honda's and Ford's fire problems don't touch GM's side saddle fuel tank issue. I can post a link if you want full details...

Well, I did mention this in with the Explorer and the Crown Victoria situations in a previous reply in this thread.
I think this issue got A LOT of attention, though I do agree that Explorer got the most, by far.
I am not excusing the issue by any means... a problem is a problem... I was just saying how this Honda issue will fade away quickly, which is has already.... haven't heard a word about it and it's only been 1 week since the story first came out....

Regardless, ANY problem that can cause a fire whether it be Ford or Honda or GM or anyone else, should be publicly acknowledged and recalled if possible.
That Ford "Exploder" thing hit hard as I have people that wont go near Bridgestone just because they are made by Firestone. They look at me and say "I dont want my car to blow up!"
But when some young lady with a CRV came in on friday for an oil change, I told her to go to Honda because of the fires. She looked at me like I was nuts. She asked me about this fire thing, and I told her she should have gotten something in the mail about this. I told her to go on the internet and look up the CRV oil fires.
