At least you have to COLLIDE with something in a Ford to get it to blow up.

Dude, you ain't right...

GM prefers to have the ignition switch short and start a fire while it's parked in the garage and burn your house down while you're in the bed asleep... is that better?!?!

We ALL have our crosses to bear, don't we!

Seriously, at least they are pointing a finger at goffy mechanic skills instead of immediately blaming some engineer for a shoddy design. (Of course, a GOOD design wouldn't allow the filter to be installed wrong, would it?)

Typical Japanese...

"Our car blow up in honorable kamikaze flames due to incompetant and dishonorable American oil change man... brave Japanese engineers not make mistake with oil filter placement."

Much like the previous Toyota classic:

"You Americans not change oil regularly, makey honorable Toyota engine commit hara-kiri. Not Toyota fault."

And the all time best:

"Honda seat belts no worky because messy and lazy Americans eat french fries and get them jammed into happy-happy cherry blossom Honda seat belt latch system. Not honorable Honda's fault."

Oops! Forgot to add my comments before clicking......

I believe it was Ford who is famous for the most ignition fires.
I have handled several of them where I work as I am a claims
adjuster for an insurance company. GM probably bought those
faulty ignition switches from Ford.

General Casualty, and I don't know anything about underwriting
motorcycle coverage. I handle auto claims all day long.

Can you imagine the reaction had this been Ford or GM? Honda seems to be getting off lightly.

It's always that way, isn't it?

Very frustrating.

An exploding fuel tank due to a standard rear end collision or faulty ignition switches catching fire at random in people's garages is not anywhere close to the same scale as improperly installed oil filters catching fire.

In one case you're dead immediately., in the next case your house might very well burn down. In the last case, all you've lost is a car because of a mechanic that didn't thread the filter properly.

It's still bad and disappointing to hear, but you guys are making it sound bloody murder or something.

A Georgia man coming home from a flea market stopped when he noticed smoke, tried to open his hood and "heard an explosion and the front end just burst into flames," according to records Honda supplied to NHTSA.
That sounds worse than just being disappointing.
