Superior Honda Quality in action...

"1 fire > 27 fires???"
The article says there were 123 incidents including one where a guys house was set on fire. It dosn't specify one total fire nor does it go into detail as to how many of the 122 incidents resulted in fire of not. I think it a safe guess to think that if spraying oil could catch fire then spraying gasoline would also catch fire.
My point was not "Hey GM suck worse Honda rulz Dude!" or who has the more dangerous recalls. I Posted this recall because of people saying that if something like this happened to GM It would be big news.
Well it did happen and when it did it was the equlivent of a page six story. No big headlines.
Look at how many posts this recall generated, now do a search for the GM recall about 4 months ago. It generated a total post count of 0.
There is almost an orgasmic reaction by many people over the fact that honda had a recall.

Let's not even start on my 94 Z28... I had to change the fog lights on it around every other month, and they didn't even make it easy to change at all.

My Sierra has yet to blow a bulb since we've owned it.
if you think about it, Honda messed up their PR responce here in a MAJOR way. they cast major doubt over their entire dealer network as far as maintenance work goes. if Honda says that their service techs need extra training to perform a simple/routine oil change, how does this reflect on the more demanding procedures. i suspect it's Honda's fault for producing faulty design. when complex machines are built, nothing can be 100% guarnteed to work properly. in other words **** happens. but they should have taken the heat for this and given the owners the peace of mind that they are working on a solution. but if i were actually one of those unluky people to get burned, i'd think more than twice about taking any Honda i'd own to any of their dealers for any service work as it doesn't appear to be any particular reagion that's affected.
so. in a way, they just took a hammer and crushed their pinky toe on the right foot. it'll heal, but they'll be reminded of their mistake every time they take a step.

Not every single recall gets noted here... some do, some don't.
Focus and Explorer stuff has been posted often, as well as GM stuff.
The point is in the general media, this would probably turn into Explorer Gate II if it were a domestic.
It's not even so much that the problem exists.. we all know all manufacturers have problems, but the thing that really gets me is that they pawn this off on the oil change guys like it's not a design flaw.
And if it were a domestic, and they blamed TWENTY SEVEN fire on a "techician installing oil filters wrong" they'd be burnt at the stake in the press.

Ok man, you win.
If this type of recall had happened to a domestic manufacture then it would have turned into as you put it "Explorer Gate II".
I admit there would have been front page headlines.
I admit there would have congressional hearings.
You are correct that if anything this major ever happens to GM they will be burned at the stake with mass public demonstrations.
The only reason people are not calling for senior executives to serve jail time is because the Illuminati are out to protect Honda.
I also take back what I said about people having Orgasmic joy over that fact that honda had a recall.
Could someone please ask the mods to ban me.

No need for the banning...

Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehe....
The hood to fender gap on my Z28 may wave in and out a little due to the plastic fender, but at least my car burns rubber...not body panels
God bless America...
I think the bottom line is this: ....put 20,000 parts together...and remember guys and gals, most of those parts are made by suppliers.......and you're gonna have problems.
I too find it interesting that Honda blames the dealer body rather than admit to a design problem.
Moreover, I'm even more appalled that more was not made of the Mitsubishi debacle...whereby the company in Japan was hiding defects for years.....
The American manufacturer is not perfect.....but neither is any other manufacturer.
One last thing...yup...problems with ignition switches......but look at the "Population" of total vehicles to incidents.......I think Honda has a bigger problem.
JMHO........

Also notice it's been a grand total of 5 whopping days, and you aren't hearing another peep about this anywhere....
I never saw even a blip about it on TV at all!
How long did the Explorer thing drag on for? What about the Crown Vic police cruisers that couldn't withstand an 85 mph rear end crash?
What about the saddle bag gas tank from GM that actually met federal safety standards at the time??

lol, If the big 3 get a problem reported, they have to do everything but shut the entire company down until its fixed.
Honda's got lil suv's catching on fire (while DRIVING DOWN THE GD ROAD!) and they're like 'Heh, ....we dont plan on doing anything really"
lol, must be in someones pocket......
And it doesnt matter who the parts or systems are brokered or farmed out to, its still Hondas problem.

When you say "The big 3" you mean Ford, Chevy, and Toyota right? Chrysler's poor quality finally caught up with them.
As far as media coverage goes, the "old big 3" has a problem with their reputation preceding them. I think that's why you will often see recall stories getting blown out of proportion. It's hard to say why the Honda incident didn't get more press, but maybe it's just the liberal, import buying media striking again.
Last year, i remember seeing a small article in my Motortrend about how Bob Lutz predicted that in 2 or 3 years GM's quality would match that of Toyota and Honda. I can't reference the exact issue, but it was worth noting that a top GM executive would go on record stating that they know they sell an inferior product.
Regardless of Honda's design flaw, if i were to make a new car purchase anywhere in the near future, i would buy a Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru over anything "American" (sidenote, Mexico and Canada aren't in America are they?). Pick up any Consumer Reports car issue and tell me i'm a fool. As much as i love my Firebird, and enjoy working on it myself, i'd prefer to have a daily driver that will never see the dealership or require anything more than tires and an oil change.

Not to ruffle feathers, but...
"The side saddle fuel tank design installed in over 10 million trucks - all 1973-87 General Motors full-size pickups and cab-chassis trucks (pickups without beds) and some 1988-91 dual cab or RV chassis - is the worst auto crash fire defect in the history of the U.S. Department of Transportation."
"This is more than twenty times as many fatalities as in the infamous Ford Pinto. Despite a voluntary recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in April 1993 (Attachment B) and an initial defect determination by Transportation Secretary Federico Pena in October 1994 (Attachment C), GM stubbornly refused to initiate a recall."
Now, there was some media attention about this, but I can see why. There was, however, not near the amount of attention given to this as was given to Ford's Pinto or Explorer issues, both of which pale in comparison. In fact, the grand total of all of Honda's and Ford's fire problems don't touch GM's side saddle fuel tank issue. I can post a link if you want full details...
