First of all redzed, you're at least 2 days too late. Second of all, weren't you the one who swore here up and down that the new Z06 was gonna base price at over $70,000?

Read the comments in the other two threads and get back to us if you must. I've already grown tired of beating this horse. The Z06 as far as performance machines go is a great deal, end of story.

Ok, it is more than the previous Z06. But if you want a car that is like the old Z06, the Z51 is close to what the Z06 used to be right? get that. If you don't want to spend $70,000 on a vette, you don't have to. There are cheaper models for you. Buy one of those.

The Z06 has moved into a higher class. That makes it cost more money. Simple as that, there is no need to say that it is too high because it hasn't been that high in the past.

Yup, the Z51 picked up the spot of the old C5 Z06, while the new Z06 has moved up to the level of super Vette. The new Z06 got a lot of upgrades for the money.

 

This Z06 is much more race car then the last Z06.
Unique chassis, unique body pannels, brakes, engine, etc etc...And they kept the starting price well under 70k.

 

Most people forget about the aluminum chassis and carbon fiber body panels that keep the weight down but add cost. The list of extras are insane. Name one car that comes even close to this performance and list the price of that vehicle as well. I would like some of the people who think 65k is too much for a ZO6 to do this.

 

Don't forget the valved mufflers, personally the coolest thing on the new car IMO.

 

I think you are wrong. I believe a whole lot of people want this car bare bones and will order it that way.

Every other damn week there is a thread here about how people want a stripped down no frills Z28...how is this any different?

The Z06 price is excellent for the content and such. I cannot keep a straight face reading that redzed brings up the FRC Corvette as a comparison.

You CAN'T be serious dude...the FRC was a cheaped out Corvette with NO performance enhancements vs a coupe C5. of course it was cheaper.

I don't think anyone here would be impressed with a $57,000 Z06 because it would not be impressive. You'd lose all that fancy content and probably at least 50 hp and 50 cubes. Its just like with the Camaro, everybody wants it to be awesome AND cheap, and the relationship between those two is inverse. To get more of one you are going to have to sacrifice on the other.

There are other cars I'd currently rather buy than the Z06 for that price... but if I was in the market specifically for a sunday driven SPORTS car with roughly an "under 100,000 dollar budget", I wouldn't think twice about ANY other option than the new Z06.

Get to the 150,000 range I might consider some exotics, but only if I had a lot more money where that 150,000 came from to pay insurance and repairs.

65k is a big jump in price, but this car should also offer a big jump in performance. And most likely to perform side by side just as well if not better than the Viper which costs 15,000 more at least than even a loaded Z06 w/ nav and such (which of course isn't available on the viper)

 

I dont see a problem with how high its priced, this is so much different from every other car out there in this price range.

I have never heard so many people liking one car, even people who HATE domestics, say they would love to have a Zo6 and that its one badass car. Honda people, BMW people, ect., all have been talking about this car on their forums...its an awesome car, and with an awesome car is of course going to come a high price tag. IMO, i dont think its a bad price.

As some people have said, name one car that even comes close to the performance of this car for 66K.

 

My question is why is the Ford GT so much more expensive?
It uses an engine already in produciton, the 5.4, only its handbuilt and designed for heavier duty racing, with a supercharger that Ford has been playing aruond with for some time. The chassis is all aluminum, and it uses a 6spd manual trans.
I dont think that the GT uses any CF.
So far, the Z06 has everything the GT has, and then some, and is still less then HALF of a GT? Even if you load it up to 72k, thats heated leather seats, DVD nav, etc etc...more content for less then half the price.

 

One big thing the GT has going for it is exotic car looks. Whether or not that is worth another $60K-$70K is up to the individual. There are more than a few with the dough that place a premium on exclusivity or to run with the 'exclusive'.

The Z06, while certainately can run with it, doesn't quite have that excolusivity because of it's blood lines and similar appearance to the base car.

 

Im still waiting for the inevitable ZO6 vs. Ford GT mag matchup. I predict a slight edge out by the GT, but an edge out that is definitly not worth $70k. (More, since I challenge you to find one for sticker)

 

Like the GTO vs Mustang GT comparision.... Z06 will probably win in every catagory, then lose by one point with a trouncing in the "Gotta have it" catagory...
