It's now official: the new Z06 starts at $65,800 MSRP! That's the base price. You can easily expect to see fully optioned examples pushing the $75,000 mark.

Am I the only one who's sad to see this sort of alarming price increase? We should all remember that the last truly clever "performance" variant of the Corvette was the lighter, cheaper and quicker Hard Top model that premiered in 1999. Of course, by 2001 the cheapest Corvette model had been replaced by the most expensive non-convertible - the Z06. We all praised it at the time. We praised it again when the power increased from 385 to 405.

Maybe GM got the wrong message. The 2001 Z06 started life as a sub-$50K replacement for the sub-$40K Hardtop. People bought the Z06 in greater numbers than the Hardtop. The success of the C5 Z06 might have been the sort of encouragement that GM absolutely didn't need.

Now GM has the audacity to push the top-dog Corvette into the price stratosphere. I griped when I saw my first $55k C6 coupe. Don't expect me to praise the C6 Z06 when I see the $75K sticker.

 

Concidering the unique engine, brakes and all of the other goodies you get, not to mention 100 more hp (25% increase) from the previous Z06. I think the price is not unreasonable. It is still 10K less than the viper and has more goodies in it.

 

What more exactly coudl you want "optional" in a Z06? And how would that rase the price almost 10k?

I guess you haven't noticed that the average C6 Coupe goes from $45K to $55K quicker than it goes from 0 to 60.


I can only assume that telling the truth isn't something that's punishable.

Go ahead, try to find one positive thing I've ever said about the Viper.

 

I would put a ******** up for auction for a Z06. I do plan on buying one as a retirement present for my self. It is worth it after 20 years in the military.

 

I never said you liked the viper. I am pointing out that the viper and the Z06 are often compared as performance leaders.

Its probably the best bang for the buck car on the market.

 

LT4, your post made me remember this add for the C6 in a recent car rag.
It said "Sorry, we cannot accept souls as a payment."
I thought it was pretty funny.

 

In case you haven't seen the info yet, the option list for the ZO6 was also released, leading off with ~3k for navigation, heated seats, etc. Also had som ~2k stereo options, some paint colors are extra money as well as some other stuff.

Most people spending 65k for a car will want some options. Not many people going to spend 65k for a race only car.

Find me another $65K car with 505HP, 3.7 0-60, and a world class chassis. Guess what, nothing exists. you need to spend over $100,000 for a Z06 quality car.

 

Would you rather it be priced up with the other cars that it is comparable to?
