SS poll
I said keep it as is mainly because it has become the top model name to most people that arent Camaro enthusiasts, plus that is most likey what it will be the way gm is going slaughtering the name by putting it everywhere...
EDIT: I now think it shouldnt be "as is," but rather more of a Cobra figter. Also i think there should be an LS which is a luxury model based on the Z28

I disliked the SS because it raised the cost of the camaro so much. $30-35K MSRP was just to high for what you got. That and the fact that as a sports coupe it should already be "super sporty" and shouldn't need to remind anyone.
I say they drop it, or:
A) Move it to LIMITED PRODUCTION status. No need to have dealers flood the lots with the most unaffordable models.
B) Make it a separate package from the Z/28 but still low cost, like the Z/28. For example - the Z/28 would be the road racer, tight suspension, stickshift only, no convertible, limited options (no extra weight) and smoothly styled (sleek and aggressive with classic racing stripes) and the SS would be flashy (boy racer), ground effects, bigger hood scoop and more interior options - but it would sell for roughly the same price as the Z/28 and have the same engine. The money would go to performance in one car and appearance in the other. There would be no "top" model and no premium price $3500+ packages with $500 worth of content. You would have to choose: SS = bling bling, Z/28 = Zoom Zoom.

Keep the SS. Differentiate it a bit better though.
SS = luxury / power / amenities / appearance - (think current SS Silverado)
Z28 = power / speed / light weight / no frills - (think ZO6)
RS = entry level performance / optional lower performance V8
Each car has unique wheels and body treatments.
SS = gets the SS hood and spoiler with some flashy wheels
Z28 = gets the twin stripes back as its own, muscular race ready wheels
RS = again unique wheels with the lower body ground effects a lot of people seem to like
I could go on about the various options I feel should be specific to each model but I think you get the idea.

This is what i said in one of the other topics after someone mentioned how the vette didn't have an SS and that the camaro didn't need the SS.
"The vette may have not gotten the SS designation, but it never had such designation to begin with. The camaro on the other hand has.
Historically speaking, the SS was the model with the bigger motor, Hp and Tq. Both have been with the camaro since the very beginning and have their place in camaro history (one a little more storied than the other). For that reason, i think the SS has a place in the camaro lineup. I'm not going to argue for which deserves to be the top model though."
My feelings and vote go towards keeping the SS. Maybe like the original, it should be the big motor, big Hp, drag car, while the Z28 would be lighter, smaller, less power, but have a higher revving smallblock and a road race suspension.
Or, just keep it the way it was with the 4th gens. Despite the lack of any real performance advantage, and higher pricing, the SS was the only model that didn't have trouble selling.

I have a different perspective now on the SS than I did a year ago. A year ago I felt the SS should be the luxo comfy car, with a Z06 style Z/28 as it's stablemate.
Now..I think that the SS should be something that is reachable for all the masses. I think it should start as a basic and affordable trim/performance package above the sport coupe.....with the flexibility to be "optioned up"from there. After all....SS is about sizzle...so let's spread it around so people can afford it.
It would, of course be available with T-Tops, convertible and all the other luxury options buyers might want....so an SS might still be optioned out to be the most expensive Camaro.
But, the basic SS package needs to be affordable....
The Z/28 would remain it's content limited Z06 style stablemate.

Maybe SS could differentiate itself from Z28 by being an AWD version of the Car...
Controversial? Ya... I used to be against the idea of AWD on a Camaro, but it's starting to catch on with me... especially if you could still get a RWD Z28 if you weren't interested in AWD.

I voted to drop the SS. There are enough SS models in the stable already. I would like to see a base and Z28 models. If a mid model is needed SS could be an optional performance package on the base with a V8. I say this because every other SS model made now or with in the past 13 years is pretty much a decal package. NOTHING SUPER SPORT ABOUT IT!
i say, if you keep it, you gotta make it affordable
like someone said before (riceeating5.0 i think), it didnt have trouble selling, but think of this...
if it was more affordable, how many more could you have sold ( a lot).
i dont think the wheels and the hood scoop (+ slp options) deserved that much of an increase in price over the z28.

The SS should be the high volume "performance package"...within reach of anyone who can afford a Camaro.
