Here's the first post. There's 5 pages of semi-bickering after that. Sound familiar?
There has been a lot of speculation and rumors the past year or two as to what would be the next SRT8 engine. From 6.4 to 6.7 to 7.0 and a few other "liters". There was also talk of the "392" only being available as a crate motor. I was told a couple years ago at the SEMA show that the "392" would ONLY be referred to as a "392" and NOT a "6.4", but recent documents list it as "6.4"... maybe they will still call it a "392" for the Challenger, who knows.
Well, the next SRT8 engine WILL be a 6.4L SMPI engine with specs similar to the 392, more than 500 HP with similar numbers for torque. The new engine will debut in the SRT8 version of the Challenger, rumored for the 2009 model year. As probably expected, the engine will also make its way to other SRT8 models. What I was surprised to find out was that it appears that it will be used in some current generation vehicles, I figured that they would have waited for a generation change.
Here is the list of vehicles scheduled so far for the new 6.4:
2009 300C (LX)
2009 Charger (LX)
2009 Grand Cherokee (WK)
2009 Challenger (LC)
2009 Viper platform vehicle (ZC)
It is *possible* that the 6.4L could be held until the 2010 model year for some of the vehicles, I have not been able to find solid evidence of the exact model year for each application.
I have not listed the Magnum per rumors that 2008 would be its last year, although I have not seen any concrete evidence yet that the Magnum is going away. With the 2008 refresh and this new engine maybe a 2009 SRT8 models is not out of the works.

Cool! The HEMI in 1957-58 Chryslers was 392 C.I. Way back then my folks had a 1957 Chrysler New Yorker vert with the 392/325 version of the HEMI. It had the pushbutton TorqueFlite transmission. Chrysler 300C models had an upgraded version that produced something like 375 or 390 hp.

Too bad their cars weigh 4200 lbs. I love old school mopar muscle but the new Hemi has underwhelmed me so far. They borrowed a lot of technology from the lsx engines, but somehow manage about 2/3 the fuel efficiency. It will be nice to see the Mustang dragging the rear in a 3 way pony car war again though.

If the SRT-8 becomes a coupe, common sense says it will weigh less and cost less.
So DCX could compete with the Camar if they wanted to. Hey, maybe they'll use a different platform to compete. Maybe that could make it even more cheaper and lighter.

This powerpoint dated jan 7th 2007 that has the Challenger as LX. I don't keep up with dodge stuff but I think LC is a shorted LX.
