Agreed. I just don't see why it can't have a cool name TOO.

Put that turbo in a hardtop for under 23 grand and I'll no longer be holding out for the El Camino...er.... assuming it's greenlighted.

I'm pretty sure it's intentional given the way everything about the Solstice seems almost to be "leaked" through GM's media and higher ups on an almost continual basis.

Heh, I'd have to disagree on that judging the by the engineer who came running up behind me to shut the hood when they noticed me next to the car.

As Management is scolding the poor Engineer:

I told you never to open the HOOD, NEVER. Now go sit in the corner and write 100 times: "I Will Never Do that again. I will also Never design an Aztek again."

Hah...twas open when I saw it, I swear.

Seriously though, we never touch the cars or the manufacturers could have us by the short and curlies.

EDIT: *ahem* oops I read that post too quick. Yes! Bad Pontiac!

Engine names do help and obviously the most successful example is Hemi. There was also Wildcat for Buick and I think the original corvette had an engine named Blue Flame. I was at an Olds car show and there were cars that had "Super High Compression" labeled on the air cleaner covers. Mopar has Magnum, 440 6 Pack

Look at all the little things on older cars that were brought to peoples attention like TurboHydramatic, Powerglide, Futuramic, Dynaride, Positrac, etc. Giving car parts unique names gets people interested and makes them remember.

It's little easy to do things like that that add to the "coolness" of a car. Would you want Ecotec badged on the side of your car?

The Ecotec has been around for a long time, and is fairly well established as being capable of over a thousand horsepower when built up. It isn't a new name by any means, and I guess to appease people like yourself they could have just left the name off the engine. I don't really think it is a big deal either way though.

GM did make 1000hp on an ecotech block, but it was far from stock. It had been blueprinted, sleeved, supersized internals, ect. and it obviously didn't make 1000hp on a regular, long-term reliable basis. Not to say its not a great engine, but I'll be more impressed when I see street versions running 500hp on stock internals. The ecotech is an aluminum, open deck block, not an iron closed deck boost monster like the 4g63.

Love it. It's just too bad the original concept of 240hp and 2400 lb. isn't gonna happen by a long shot

"true dual exhaust" on a single turbo 4cyl, I gotta laugh outta that one!
As if "true duals" were really that big a deal on a 90deg crank V8 anyway.

Funny even my Mazda 6 renta car had "duals".

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks it's funny...

Still... if the pricing and power output is right, along with good quality control... that car should be a BIG winner.

This car wil be faster and have more torque then the s2000. Besides then s2000 is going bye bye.
