Seems like a silly blanket compromise to make on a cornering performance model like Z28. Especially when you consider the following....

Tire section width is just one small part of what makes the car tram. Tire type / construction / pressures, alignment settings, what the suspension geometry does, etc. all play very large roles.

The 245 Gatorbacks on my 3rd gen trammed terribly with factory alignment / suspension settings while my '96 does not tram at all with 275 Kumho street tires and the alignment set at up to 1/4 inch toe out with max camber and caster.

I've also not noticed any tramming whatsoever the admittedly very few times I've had the car on the street with 315 race rubber (Hoosier A6 and Kumho V710) but the same car trammed horribly with 265 Kumho V700 Victoracers.

So you compare dealer markups and extra option added cars to used cars? You also say that it would be 20% over that would be 48k and that wouldn't include an engine upgrade, when in fact the base MSRP GT500 is 48k.

Given the same logic you guys are using, in 2 years this won't be a problem. The Camaro will being sold under MSRP and so 20% of that number maybe 38k for your Z28.

Everyone knows newer cars cost more and you pay for that premium. If GM wanted to, they could make a 42k base MSRP Z28, or they could make it lower priced and put in an LSA.

The Corvette is in many ways easier to live with. First off the trunk opening on the Camaro is a big issue. The Vette and Camaro probaly have the same size trunk..but the Camaro has a very off trunk opening that is akward to deal with. Getting in and out the Camaro is the same as the Vette. They both sit low and are akward. Lastly, the back seat in the Camaro is useless. With the seat a 3rd of the way back, it's basically touching the rear seat. In many ways it is worse than the 4th Gen.

The Camaro SS is infact much closer to a Grand Touring car... a modern GTO or Chevelle SS than it is a Mustang. The Camaro is highly capable in everything, but much has been written about it's solid, stable ride and unflapable manners.

Or even a modern day Monte Carlo - without the back seat.

BTW, anyone following this poll? Interesting, considering we're at "SS fan HQ" here.

Not suprised considering the way you put a slant on the choices.

What other nomenclature would people immediately associate with performance?

M is taken, V belongs to Cadillac, Z is the last letter in the alphabet...

Allow Chevy performance a true identity and keep the SS tag!

I thought you meant the poll to be slanted, but your reply indicates that you didn't.

Go back and look at your choices again? Don't you think the questions are very leading?

I never replied to the poll, because neither choice represents how I feel about SS, which is that it's historically been the performance variant of each model, akin to the Dodge R/T moniker. It's not that I think SS is awesome (please be serious), but I don't see an obviously "more relevant" marketing strategy.

I actually think that the Cobalt SS and Camaro SS earn the 'SS' name -- much more so than many SS's of the 60s did.

Your poll answers should have been a simple "yes" or "no"

By putting the other stuff in there, you kind of lead voters......

No way, everyone thinks it's awesome.
~~~ Sounds sarcastic and makes you feel dumb for taking this choice.
Time for a more relevant performance marketing strategy.
~~~ Makes it sound like the smart and 'correct' choice.

Interesting. Honestly, I didn't put that much thought into it.

Ya, I wasn't tryign to imply it was intentional... just the way it comes off when the poll options get "spiced up"....

Mid engine?

I totally get the appeal of a mid engine, but do you really think that is even remotely possible?

Get rid of it? No. We're talking about 50 years of heritage here.

Stop throwing it on random cars in attempt to generate more sales? Yes.
