Im not liking the sound of this Kappa based Camaro. Sounds like a LOT of engineering which means to me that the due-date for this car will be more long the likes of teh Camaro's 50th birthday then 40th.

If the Torana is on the future chassis, it seems most of the engineering has been finished. To me, Zeta seems like it would have needed more engineering work since it would need to be shortened and thinned. Maybe that's why it said in the article about the Torana that a SWB Zeta won't be happening. It cost too much for that.

But a car we aren't expecting to be, just may.

There's a few of us looking into this right now.

Stay tuned.
So they are going to put the Camaro on the Tahoe chassis?? SWEEEET I can run over my old Camaro on my way to killing myself!

I think if Chevy goes with Zeta, we will see a car faster then if this new uber-kappa is designed and developed.
Something about going form a 4cyl, 2dr 2 seater roadster...it spawns a V8, 2dr, 2+2 seater larger sports coupe just doesnt sound right to me.
Zeta is designed for V8's and 6spd transmissions as well as taking a beating.
If this chevy coupe is launched off Kappa, I can see why we might not be calling it Camaro.
Looks like im getting a GTO.

Maybe...maybe not. One thing to consider though.... Zeta traces it's roots to GM2800. The Cadillac Catera for all of us North Americans. Kappa is essentially a 7/8ths scale Corvette. IMO, I'd rather Camaro have more Corvette influence than Catera influence. Even if I have to wait afew more months (which I'm not altogether convinced of)...it may be worth it.

Why? Our best info says that Zeta is not easily configurable to a smaller Camaro sized car. But apparently Kappa can more easily be scaled up to Camaro specs than Zeta can be scaled down. I think a Kappa-esque architecture would make a more appropriate Camaro than an architecture designed for relatively large sedans.

Looks like im getting a GTO.
Al, I knew that's what you really wanted, all along.

What best info? Only info I have heard officialy is that Kappa is designed for the Ecotec only, and that Zeta can be configured to a SWB copue.
And isnt Zeta more Sigma then VZ?
I dont think that a "Corvette" like Camaro will be the way GM should go. The low-slung sports car feel is, IMO, one of the reasons why sales didnt fare well for the fbodies.

According to the GoAuto story and some of guionM's sources and some of my sources...there are some issues with scaling down Zeta for Holden's "Torana" concept. Apparently, Holden's initial proposal was Zeta based...but was deemed too expensive. From what we know, the Kappa based platform was given the nod as a better fit for a '3 Series sized' sport sedan....which the Holden concept will reportedly be. We'll know LOTS more in about 2-3 weeks.

A new medium RWD architecture based on Kappa...will require lots of engineering....and when it's done...may not even be called Kappa.

But if someone's team wants to do it....and Bob Lutz is giving you public support...it's gonna get done....and fast.

BTW, when I say "Corvette like"...I mean in chassis dynamics.

Re: Solution to Camaro naming problem...

a corvette like chassis using a V8...sounds like a...Corvette? Basicly, its gunna be a 4 seater vette...like the 4th gen was.
I think that this Holden-ized Kappa will be much stronger to handle the roads of Oz, so this might not end up too bad...but I cant imagine driving a Curve-sized Camaro.
