I doubt it...and Ill tell you why.

#1- the CAW is fine now, and even Guy said this. There were more people hired at Oshawa then were let go at Ste.T, so teh CAW got more jobs out of the deal.
#2- The CAW will most likely build the Camaro at Oshawa, so either way we are keeping everone happy.

If its built in Canada, then we wont have problems with the Goverment and the CAW....problem solved right? I dont see why we should keep debating the Camaro name. All we need to do is flood GM with "I want a CAMARO" and make sure that the name Camaro haunts them in there dreams!

I think GM not naming a 2+2 rwd V6/V8 coupe "Camaro" will give a back lash bigger then what they got for the GTO. And even more if they name it Chevelle.

ahem.
Its funny how our standards will drop for GM. Hasn't every one on this board complained about honda's with acura badges, and toyota's with lexus badges. Yes, I think the the term is RICE.

Interesting point, has anyone seen RSX with Integra on it?

Yes...only cause the RSX is called Integra in Japan.

J-spec badges ad 15.560 hp....stupid metric conversions.

Yeah, but in Japan it's also called Honda, not Acura. Personally I have yet to see any RSX with Integra badging, and seeing the popularity the Integra name earned, it's a wonder.

Just a thought. Let's see someone strip GT sticker, and put GT40

Actualy, I do see a lot, but only at the track. I guess Acura wanted to get away from the names and go for something more alphanumeric.
and I think they wanted some people to confuse RSX and NSX? So when someone sayd "I drive an RSX", some kid thinks...OH MAN, THATS THAT CAR THAT CAN BEAT A FERRARI!!

Re: Solution to Camaro naming problem...

So now the RSX/Integra/whatever has the same heritage as "CAMARO"?

Rebadging it is a stupid idea. It's like twenty years ago when I was working in an auto parts store and a customer came in looking for parts for his "Ford TRANS AM". It seems he decided to put aftermarket firechicken and Trans Am badges on a 76 Ford Fairmont, so that naturally made it a "Trans Am".

If it isn't called Camaro, don't rice it out by rebadging it as such.

If it isn't called Camaro, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Good intentions, but too me sounds too 'ricey'. Like plastering 'Type-R' on everything.

If it's not called Camaro (which I'm holding my breath it will be), I will personally NOT be pursuaded against buying it. BUT will be greatly disappointed.

Re: Solution to Camaro naming problem...

Haha, I was just telling a friend of mine an idea like this a few weeks ago. If Chevy comes out with a new Camaro-like car, and I get it, I'm taking whatever name is on it off and putting Camaro letters there or something. It doesn't really matter what they name it, Chevelle, Nova, whatever they want. If it looks cool and deserves to be called the Camaro I'll be putting those letters on .

I have a feeling there wont be a Camaro announcement until after the new contract is signed with the CAW. I would also guess the car will not be built in Canada.

Re: Solution to Camaro naming problem...

I sure hope they don't name it the Chevelle. GM will have to go through the same old B.S. as when the revived the GTO nameplate.

People already had their expectations as to what the GTO should be by looking in a historical context. The new one would have to be one of the most stylish and radical looking cars on the road.(or something retro) It would also be one of the fastest cars on the road, a no nonsense, unrefined, rough around the edges rocket.

Now GM gives us a handsome, clean, almost boring looking car. It is also one of the most refined cars to ever be built by GM. It isn't the fastest thing on the street, but still a very quick car. Its something that will attract grown up adults, not an object of envy for every 16 year old like the orginal.
