Wow.... thanks for making me feel old... Dang! I never thought of it like that!

Sorry about the background sounds.

Is there going to be a rule change in ALMS to allow for DI? Corvette Racing was going to use a DI engine back in 2009/2010 and all the teams put up a stink about it making too much power.

Actually they do allow it, and I think started to allow it in 2010. Ferrari and porsche were the ones complaining about the Corvette using it(because it was spanking their asses) which sparked a rule change that forced corvette racing to remove it, and the rules just kept flowing in after that which hurt corvette more and more, and helped BMW more and more to the point where the BMW is practically a GT1 car now. CR kept their cool about it all this time and just kept fighting the rules behind closed doors.
So in the end, CR was using it in 2010 at one point(three races?), so we know they can do it, and do it well. That tech trickles down to the production cars often, so there is no reason why we couldn't see it in production soon.

Corvette should be capped at 300HP because with the current rules it is possible for them to win in a race.

GM superseded the LT series with the LS series. shouldn't the next gen follow suit and become the LR series?

LR1. I like it. Sounds fast.

The base C6 had more horsepower than the C5Z. That's what you hope happens with new generations, all the models get better!

I'm in the mood to nitpick (that's most of the time for me ), and also I'm hoping to resume the discussion of what new features we can expect in the GenV engines.

The 2005 C6 had 400hp, which is 5hp lower than the 2004 C5Z. It wasn't until the LS3 came out in 2008 that the base C6 became more powerful than the C5Z.

Damn; I knew that too!

The point remains the same though. Just because the base level performance of a new generation comes close to the mid-level performance of the previous generation doesn't necessarily mean you don't do a mid-level model in the next generation.

Personally I don't know why they didn't just make the 5.5L the base truck engine. 5.3L is for trucks only, 6.2L will be the base Corvette engine and I've heard it will be the engine for the ATS-V. The 6.2L should be good for over 475HP.
The only place I have seen this info is here and on the LS1 board.. Until I see it from GM I doubt it seriously.
It is more likely to be a 5.5L with several tunes, probably 430hp for the Camaro SS and the top one being 450hp for the C7 Corvette in 2014. Base LS3 right now is 430hp in the Vette, 436 with the optional NPP exhaust system. From there I would think a 6.2L or 6.5L for the Z06 pushing to around 550hp, and a blown or turbo'ed 5.5L for the ZR1 taking it to 650hp.

Or more, I think GM likes having the most powerful V8 in the world. I cant see them taking back seat to Ford very long.

The LS7 was originally going to be 6.4L, maybe they still have something planned for that displacement. It would be nice to see the Z06 stick with a large naturally aspirated engine.

+1 that is perhaps my favorite feature of the Z06, a nice big engine.
