Skyline GT-R curb weight 3900lbs.?
http://www.infiniti.com/g_coupe/specifications.html
G35 coupe is 3505lbs. for auto, 3524lbs. for manual trans.
Many here say forced induction and all the upgrades that go along with it add 200lbs. AWD adds another 200lbs. (at least on the G35 sedan it did).
It is kid of sad, between this car, the GT500, Dodge Challenger, and the estimates by guionM on what a super charged Camaro would weigh it looks like 3900lbs.+ is the norm for ~500HP Coupes
Unless you want to spend Z06 money and get a 3130lbs. 505HP car. Boy the Z06 even at $70,000 looks like a better and better deal every day. If the Blue devil can come in under 3100lbs. then the Corvette team must have signed a deal with the devil. (pun intended)

Re: Skyline GT-R curb weight 3900lbs.?
At the same time, the GTR team may be using lighter body pannels and other components to get the weight down, like the Z06 did. So the added pounds for AWD and turbo components may not just tack on 400 lbs by default.
Edit: not saying it wont be a porker, but I guess at this time there's just no way of knowing.

(pun intended)Also, we all know that a lot of the “frills” have been left out of the Z06 and almost certainly will be left off the supper ‘Vette as well because those things add weight so it often comes down to what you are buying the car for…if your only or primary concern is flat out performance you don’t care about those things but if you are looking for a grand touring machine that has both performance and luxury and won’t necessitate the services of a chiropractor at the end of a 1,000 mile trip then you don’t buy a racing machine.
One more thing, if you've ever had the chance to drive a truly good all wheel drive setup (such as the Audi Quatro) and experienced the benefits it affords then you probably won't mind the extra weight.

STI (I've driven an 06) has a nice AWD setup and manages to stay under 3500 lbs. Granted its down on creature comforts, but by default a nice AWD car does not have to be heavy.

^ ^ STI's are kick-a$$ cars on the track
. I've been getting involved in some road racing events and they absolutely clean up with a competent driver
. Apparently the AWD system, with ~300 HP in a ~3500 lb car works well?

If Nissan wants to make the GT-R a $90,000 car then I guess they could get the weight under 3700. But if they want to sell more units than a Viper they better stay away from the Viper price.

Re: Skyline GT-R curb weight 3900lbs.?
Please, please, PLEASE tell me weight of this car is NOT a surprise?!
Please tell me that there is no longer people here that think IRS is lighter than a live axle, or think an All Wheel Drive system isn't a heavy son-of-a-bitch addition to a car or that doesn't realize that a turbocharger and intercooler system add at least 100 pounds to a car.
I know there are going to still be people here that even now still think (despite everything but the kitchen sink proving to the contrary) that goodies don't add weight, and it's no additional cost to make a car lighter, and that you don't have to make compromises when you add IRS, blowers, and AWD systems, and that 500+ horsepower capable chassis weigh no more than those engineered for 350, but 3900 pounds is going to become the norm for really high powered machinary.
A G35 has an alununum V6 engine & is barely longer than a Cobalt, yet weighs more than the new, bigger, Mustang GT (boat anchor engine included) & is about the same weight as the last Z28s.
Before anyone starts with the "If you take weight off, you'll need less horsepower" argument, let me retort: "Where do you think we just came from???"

My guess is that the powertrain additions will add a lot of weight.
Re: Skyline GT-R curb weight 3900lbs.?
We've known how much weight powertrain add to accomodate big HP (Corvette excluded).
My question is, is it worth it? I know my thirdgen with 300 hp would beat the hell out of my GTO with 400 HP and 400 lbs in extra mass. Would a 300-350 hp car be that much slower than a 450 hp car and 600 lbs of added weight?

Re: Skyline GT-R curb weight 3900lbs.?
anyone who is surprised by the weight has been deluded by all the ricer hype. skylines have always been heavy. they are nothing special at all. a base vette would rape them
