Fine with me. I'd just pay extra for a convertible.

Finally, a sunroof. I've got cigar ashes all over the inside of my car.

Nah I tried that. I asked around but couldn't get the WS6 on the Formula for 02.

When my my car, I thought t-tops were a must have, but now that I have the car, I rarely take them off. I'm not into the wind blowing everything around. Well, JMO I know many people really like them.
At least everyone agrees that there should be some kind of "mid-range" open air option. Not everyone would like the $4000 option and the other negatives that come along with a true convertible. If we still get T-tops or even a targa for a grand, it gives the Camaro a distinct advantage over the Mustang in one way right there.

Most buyers will buy a 4th gen with T-tops even if they don't want it...however most people won"t settle for a non-Topped car if thats what they want.....
The reason the 4th gens had the bar was because it was part of the structure of the car and helped with rigidity...it is even in hardtop models..

I have t-tops on my SS, but I'd rather not have them. I like light weight and structural rigidity in a sporting vehicle, and t-tops negatively affect both.
With the advent of the modern "hard" convertible top, like in the baby Mercedes roadster, I think all other forms of open top are basically obsolete, with the possible exception of the basic sunroof, as it doesn't require many compromises and isn't nearly so expensive.
I know many folks like t-tops--if the Chev dealers just didn't order them on every SS made so I could have more choice in the used market, it would be nice. (I never buy new, so I can't order cars optioned exactly they way I like them.)

1) Purple coupe - 6spd
2) Black vert - 6spd
3) Green t-top - A4
After test driving al three, I picked #3. The t-topped car clearly had more headroom than the coupe, and I was a little nervous about the threat of vandalism and theft with the convertible.
After almost 8 years of ownership (July of this year will be 8 years) I now am of the opinion that t-tops suck! They add weight. They leak. They're a pain in the *** to remove while you're driving and even in sunny California, I rarely have them off.
Conculsion? If you want to be "WindInHisHair" get a convertible.
If headroom isn't an issue with the Gen-V, I'm getting a coupe. If it is an issue, then I'll have to flip a coin.

I think I probally had mines off less than a dozen times in 2 years, usually if I have a out of town visitor & I'm showing them the city (mom, dad, friends). I originally was looking for a near stripper Z28 hard top, but settled on a loaded T-top.
I don't really use them, and could do without them. However, if they could be leakproof, it would be one of those "nice to have" items.

If properly maintained, current T-Tops are leak proof. The only exception may be if you're going through a car wash.....or like me, driving through tropical gale winds! That wasn't fun.
My Z doesn't have T-tops, but my 98 did and I never had a problem with leaks other than the above exceptions. I know the 3rd gens were different, but the 4th's were designed with them in mind and don't suffer the same problems with t-top rigidity, fit, or leaks.

If you take care of your car you should have no problems with either Gen. My 89 doesn't leak or make sounds, the seals were replaced when they were needed to be and the car is nice and tight, and it has more than 100,000 on it.
