I am working on the assumption that it would have Pontiac's front and rear fascias.

if it were to come, then G8 GXP. what would be the point of having a g8 and the same car with a body kit and what not be called a completely different car at all? let alone a gto.

i never did like the triangular fog light areas of the GTS. thought it was just too much and obnoxious

Yeah, I'm still not seeing it making the junkyard-dog Charger run anywhere except into the distance, especially if it's imported with an LS2. Give it another 30-50 hp, tone down the body kit, and give it a Woodward GTO face, and we'll see.

Thank You. What is being suggested is essentially reducing GTO to an option package since you can already get the exact same car with a few different panels.

Two and two halves of doors is still two halves too many. Just make it with scissor doors. They can be ten feet long and you'll still have no trouble in any parking spot.

You cant tell me its going to cost eleventy billion dollars more to design and build a vertical hinge with a counterweight.

You do realize the original GTO was a tempest with hood scoops. Later it became the le mans with hood scoops and a smoother front fascia. GTO as atotally stand alone unique model was an all new idea.

No, not a GTO...don't need a 4-door G8 and a 4-door GTO...do we?

^what he said^ only I believe it was hood scoops and an unnecessarily large engine.

I know you are scoffing at my half door suggestion, but honestly, if scissor doors could be implemented in a simple, non-ricetastic way that worked well with the lines of the car, I'd be all for it... but the scenario I described is unlikely. Saturn/RX8 style doors are less ridiculous...

But I honestly don't care, so long as that Ute gets over here in one form or another...

Unnecesarily large? How did you get here?

Hmmm, of cars with Saturn and RX8 style doors, I can think of two... Both of which are slow as *****.

Of cars with scissor doors I can think of a half dozen, all of which are fairly fast. Given the choice of which to associate a future GTO with I pic the latter.

As I posted above scissor doors are really no more complicated then regular doors, just a creative hinge and a counterweight. If you think a feature that functions as the only feasible way to get in and out of various $100,000+, 600+ horsepower cars is rice and comparable to functionless scoops and other nonsense of some misguided Honda owners I would say you need to reevaluate your definition.

Using them on a low volume, 400hp luxury sports coupe to make it usable makes perfect sense and is anything other than "rice".

To reiterate, this

Does not equal

The GTO pkge brought with it Bucket seats, stick shift, and the hood scoop and "unecessarily large" engine(not that you couldn't order one differently..)

The GTO didn't fare well not because it was a bad car but because it wasn't the right car for the name and heritage. If Pontiac called the Monaro a G8 or GS or anything else I think it would have done better in sales. Purists didn't like the use of the GTO name and the public kept comparing it to past GTO's and Ford with its retro Mustang. It never had a chance.

Soo how could the Commadore thats already named the G8 be able to have any kind of sales much less dignity as a GTO.

Just to play devil's advocate, wasn't the historic GTO basically an option package save a couple of years when it had it's own brochure??

Good God Charlie let it rest. Very few people want a 4 door GTO. Given a choice of the HSV coming over as the G8 GXP or the GTO, why on Gods green earth would ANYONE prefer that it, being a 4 door, be called a GTO? If they can't or won't do a 2 door GTO, then let the name die.

Simply as a marketing tool. If the Pontiac Monaro wasn't called GTO, would it have sold better or worse? My opinion is that the just calling it GTO probably scored some extra sales and buzz.
Just my opinion though.
