GT won't pass 2007 regulations?

That's news to me.

There are exemptions for very low production cars, and Ford's GT definately qualifies (ie: the new to US Lotus, most Ferraris & Lamborgininis, Saleen S7, etc...).

Re: Shelby Cobra won't replace GT(40)... THIS will.

this i think brings another interesting question if this replaces the gt...
will the mustang slack off any on power?
this car i guess somewhat competes with the vette right?
or is it just meant to be a higher up more "exotic" car?

i'm thinking if it is supposed to compete with the vette, the stang takes a break and lets it compete with the vette
just curious where it falls inline in the car "food chain"

Sorry guionM... Ford's GT is NOT exempt.
And I'm not sure that just "low-volume" exempts ANY car from All federal requirements.

From an article posted on Ford's website...
QUOTE - "...it also allowed engineers to integrate the front bumper--necessary for safety regulations--without modifying the exterior design of the production car...."
In reference to bumper design and placement.
LINK 1

QUOTE - "The ducktailed rear clip was just as essential to the car’s profile, but not as accommodating of current safety regulations. As such, designers crafted a floating bumper – punctuated by massive dual exhausts pipes – that is separate from the rear clip. The result passes bumper requirements without altering the tapered rear end.."
Also in reference to bumper design and placement.
LINK 2

There's more regarding emissions, fuel containment, and crash safety (mostly where these bumper regs came from), but I'm getting packed for a weekend trip to the upper mid-west and don't have the time tonight. Leaving first thing in the morning for Cincinnati, OH and Gary, IN on Saturday. Bringing home another '78 King Cobra too!

Have a great weekend!!!

Re: Shelby Cobra won't replace GT(40)... THIS will.

Personally I'd rather have Daisy. I just rewatched the episode of Rides last night on DVD where the new Cobra is developed. I'm not typically a Ford fan, although I've always loved anything Carroll Shelby got his hands on. That car is awesome. If they build it and price it in the Z06 to Viper territory, I'm sure it'd be a winner. The GR-1 is cool, but it just doesn't have the heritage the Cobra roadster has. (Sure its based off the Cobra coupe, but the average non-ethusiast doesn't know much about the coupe's race car heritage.) I guess the bean counters at Ford are thinking the roadster isn't practical enough for daily driving... like the GR-1, GT, Viper or Z06 are?

Had a great trip!

We stayed at a Hampton Inn in the Kings Island area. Visited some college buddies. Wife and kid went to Kings Island all day Saturday while I "collected" my car from Gary, In. (What a freakin' ride... 630 miles across corn fields... with a city named Indianapolis thrown in at halfway for good measure.)
It's beautiful country up there. Leaves were starting to turn pretty good in northern Indiana.
Cinci needs some rain BAD. After getting 5 hurricanes and 20+ inches of rain in a month down here, it was the opposite extreme to go there and see dry dirt everywhere. No rain for 4 weeks! Gees!

As for the Shelby cars, I'm with jg95z28. Pretty well put there dude.
My point was similar, how does a car get the cover of every mag, make the internet crawl, and consume every guy-conversation at a coffee pot, but not reveal enough interest to justify a few thousand units of production? I think there are other issues under the covers that we may never know of.
Just my .02 .
Heck, I'll take either one if it was given to me!

if you lived in cinci, you would know how it goes with the weather
in the same week, it can be 70 degrees and then snowing later on in the week, no lie

but, i have been enjoying the nice weather we've been having lately, even though we do need a little rain
not rain like you've been having though
