Re: SAE world congress update Z06 info +

Really, GT has its place in the market secured through sheer rareness and desirablity having little to nothing to do with it's athletic abilities.

The cars that need to be very afraid would include the Porsche 911 Turbo, and the Ferrari F430. Both have more prestige, and in the case of the Ferrari, maybe a little more ability than a ZO6, but I can clearly see ZO6 stealing some sales from both of them.

(Dont bring up the cross-shopping argument, I agree. But theres at least a few people who'll be happy to buy a ZO6 AND an H2 instead of that Porsche...)

I see the lack of CF rear fenders, hood, roof skin, door skin, etc. as room for future developement Maybe even make the rear diffuser in CF and offer optional CF non-power seats. Plus I LOVE the idea of CF/Ti wheels that are being tested on that STS. What are the C6 Z06 wheels made of? Aluminum? Would Magnesium weigh less?

I would also bring back the Ti exhaust, but make sure it offers a little horsepower increase to justify the cost.

GM could charge a very high premium for those parts and drop the overall weight of their supercar a couple hundred pounds more. Sure, it wouldn't help the 50/50 weight distribution, but less overall weight is easier to turn and accelerate.

I can't wait until somebody swaps an aluminum frame and the LS7 under the hood of a regular C6

I'm back! There was some misinformation in my previous post. Tadge Jeuchter actually said that the C6 was first 400hp car with no gas guzzler tax but in reality it was the 2002 Z06. The literature correctly points this out.

The wheels on the STS SAE 100 TIV where really awesome and they are actually Magnesium spokes and carbon fiber rims attatched with titanium bolts for galvanic reasons.

The titanium exhaust on the previous generation Z06 was apparently a big experiment where the titanium was supplied at cost and the exhaust was then supplied to GM at cost and it was still extremely expensive so they decided since that deal was gone and the priority was to save weight in the front of the car that Ti exhaust wasn't worth it. On a side note this is actually a similair situation to the magnesium engine cradle on the C6 Z06.
