I don't see "GM" anywhere in this commercial, so ...

I like it, gets a good point across. I like this better then any other GM ads, but IMO, I think this would have been a BETTER tag line for Chevy. Chevy IS the All American Brand. This would have taken away that horrible this is our country and American Revolution.
The Rethink thing also reminds me of the Altima and Nissan commercials, "Shift_whatever."
Like Always, Like Never Before, now THAT was perfect for Saturn.
It took the good parts, the cusotmer service, the dealer experiance, the overall Saturn feeling, the concern with saftey, but then the never before part, the new attention to detail, the sportyness, the new hot designs, making people WANT a Saturn.
IMO, best Saturn commercial was the "Thats a Saturn?"
Everyone of us know at least ONE person that saw a Sky or Aura, asked there opinion on the car, and then when you surprised them with the brand, they go "thats a saturn?" I work in a mall, and there was an Aura parked out in it. I would walk by it every day going to lunch, and I could hear it at least out of one person looking at teh car wow, thast a saturn? It was a great ad for Saturn, and it kept the "American" thing down on the low.
I think that Chevy could have taken the American thing much further.
Rethink Design, show boring dull japanese cars, and show off cars like the Corvette, Malibu, Tahoe and Camaro
Rethink Status, could show the Biturbo thing, and then a hybrid Two-Mode Tahoe
Rethink Performance, show a european supercar composite then show the Z06
Rethink Utility, show big mack trucks, and then show the Silverado
You could do one for Aveo compared to the traditional small boring cars.
Rethink American

Define outperformed? Don't get me wrong, I love F bodies, both Camaro and Firebird, and prefer them to Mustang (though I'm not a Mustang hater), but the Mustang was faster than Camaro and Firebird for most of the 80s and early 90s. Acceleration-wise, the 5.0s beat the third-gens in virtually every comparison test. It wasn't until the release of the 4th gen that Camaro and Firebird pulled decisively back ahead.

There were some years inthe mid 80's where the 5.0 outpowerd teh 305 TPI cars, but come 87 with the reintroduction of the L98 into the Thirdgens, it was evenly matched, but handling wise the Thidgens still held the advantage. Fbodies didnt pull away from the Mustang till the 4th gens and the introduction of the very powerful LT1, along with the slowly decreasing hp numbers of the 5.0 engine.

This is more or less true, but I was just saying that there were more years than 70 where Mustang outperformed Camaro. Mustang was faster pretty consistently in 85/86/87 and though the L98 had a 48 cube advantage it was also hauling 300 or so more pounds and was auto only. The 5.0s were often faster 0-60 than L98s, though they'd lose in the quarter.
