The problem with supercharging the LS7 isn't the piston material, but rather the combustion ratio. It's terribly unwise to throw any boost on top of an 11:1 compression ratio.

Hypereutectic pistons are plenty strong - they're just not tough enough to handle detonation at high power levels. Modern engine management systems with proper calibration do a great job of preventing detonation, so this isn't a problem if the engine is properly modified and tuned.

I wonder how much more the engine is capable of handling, STOCK?
A hell of a lot more, as long as the tuner can figure out how to keep the engine from detonating. Too many folks want to advance the timing until is sounds like someone is beating on a trash can with a hammer, and then pull a couple of degress out.

You could always swap in a power glide!

According to my calculations (which are approximate because I had to guess at the tire size and redline), first gear will be good to about 30mph in the automatic version and about 50mph with the manual trans.

Regarding it being useless at WOT... did you not read about Performance Traction Management?
I didn't calculate anything, I exaggerated with what I thought would be an easily identifiable fake number. And I did see the thing about their Performance Traction, but why get more TCS to compensate for overly short gears. Also I did not discuss the rear-end ratio for the manual at all, even though it is the same. Since the manual gear ratios are completely different than those in the auto 3.73s are a more "normal" ratio for that transmission. I still wouldn't be surprised if the auto ended up with 2.73s.

Same here. Could easily be a typo. Press releases, which are not written by engineers, rather frequently have these types of problems (along with web sites).
