Reg cab Silverado SS

As for Acura's 240hp V6's, I'm still trying to think of one GM non blown V6 that has more power. As for Ford & Toyota improving their engines, Ford's 4.6L/281cid 265 hp engine still gets worse milege than our 5.7L/345hp engine. Compare Acura's 240 horse V6 fuel economy to say a quad cam 300+ Northstar V8. They have little choice but to improve.
GM Powertrain in my opinion is the one star of GM that has of late always com through. Even with old technology, making fuel efficient engines that put out power, no one else comes close.
As far as the truck wars go, though I like both the Lightning and the upcomming Ram R/T, I'm not in a bunch over Silverado SS because 1) Those vehicles will be more limited & expensive than Silverado SS, 2)GM is at the threshold of outselling Ford with some of the best trucks ever made, 3) Though admittedly neat in idea, what honestly is the purpose in having a 2 1/2 ton 150mph pickup truck that accelerates as fast as a Z28?!, and finally 4)It's unlikely ou and I will be buying not only Lightning or R/T, but also(I admit I'm guessing in your case) the Silverado SS even, if it came with a nuclear powerplant for an engine.

If you don't understand or want a sport truck, that is your perogative. Just as it is mine to have one and like it. BTW, don't blast it before you try it. I have never met one person who has driven one and not liked it. They are much more fun than a fast car. There is just something about 4800lbs of real truck that can accelerate and handle like a sports car that blows your mind.

Oh good lord....you obviously haven't met me then....trucks are tools, period.
I don't even look twice at these bloated "sport trucks'....what a joke.
Tell you what, bring your overweight Lightning out to the road track someday and I'll show you the tailights of an Z/28...but look quick, I'll be the one laughing as they pull you out of the ditch.
BTW, this is CamaroZ28.com...so I don't really care to talk anymore about trucks...

If 4800 lbs is fun does that make 5800lbs more fun? What about 9800lbs....that must be a total blast!?
I have always felt (am I alone here?) that a lighter car is more fun. It handles better...it accelerates better...it brakes better. Just imagine how fun that 4800lb truck might be if it went on a 2000lbs diet!
Am I missing something? Someone please explain this to me.

I guess I still consider trucks as tools...meant to haul our cars and other loads....when I want to go fast, turn, stop and perform, I want a car!!
To me these trucks are just silly..........give me a HD truck with the ability to haul a 28' trailer and my car and then I'll think about it......I'm sure GM/Ford/Dodge would love for us to buy these huge profit makers, but count me out....I want a sports CAR...where no-one will wonder where my gun rack is.....</font>

I think that there was just hope that GM would come up with SOMETHING fast, because hey, they might not give us fast cars, but GM's bread and butter is trucks, right?
Then they half *** even that, just leaving us disappointed again.
Not as many people would care about the Silverado SS if GM hadn't abandoned cars, but they have, and then they half *** trucks.
*shrug*

if car companies made more RWD cars then less people would have the get trucks to get their RWD fix.
Lightnings are also faster than LT1's and every other new car under 50 grand but the Vette and Cobra

I'll give 94Lightning gal some credit- she made some good points before you guys flamed her.
I suppose all you can't stand Typoons and Syclones eh?
I never owned a truck- but my friend has sortbox reg cab Z71- I like it.
I really like the looks of the Siverado SS-
(except the for the ext cab) and the PRICE!
Lightnings are cool- unlike curent GM offereings (except the Vette)

Well, I don't have an LT1.....I have a Stage II 383 LT4 + a lot of mods like Baer Pro+ brakes, Koni DA's, etc....so her bloated Lightning will be a faint vision in my rear view mirror.....and no, I didn't like the Typhoons either...why bother putting good motors in heavy trucks??...I like cars.....trucks are like a shovel to me...you can move some dirt, but when I want to drive, give me a car.
Let's not hijack this thread any longer.....you'll never change my mind and I don't care to change yours.....but I would like to get back to talking about cars and leave the truck talk for the truck drivers....

Different strokes for different folks. Look how many people go ga-ga over the 94-96 Impys when they could have got a better LT1 in an FBody for probably less money and a lot less weight.
(not picking on the b-body guys, just using you as an example. I love the fact that companies offer(ed) several different types of performace platforms. My next vehicle will be a Typhoon).

Just a small correction, the Silverado SS is significantly more expensive than the Lightning. Projected base price on the SS is $38K, the MSRP of the lightning is only about $32,600.

.Are you attempting to say that a 2 and a half ton truck with a center of gravity over 2 feet off the ground handles like a sports car?? There is a streach of California Highway 1 going towards Monterey to test that view keeping while up with my less fun sports car. Or if that's a little too unnerving there's Interstate 8 at the San Diego/Imperial county line, comming down off the mountain, headed to El Centro.

I had a Ford F100 as a teenager, a Ranger (my ex's actually), and yes, I've ridden in a Lightning a few times. Yes it's fast, yes it handles way better than I'd say any truck out there, and as I said before, I even think it's a pretty nice vehicle.
But to understate the obvious, it's a bit of a reach (to put it politely) to compare it with a sports car.
On the other point, if Silverado will in fact be going for $38K, then I will agree completely with you that the-cheaper-than-Cobra Lightning is a far better deal. For that money GM should at least make a modern version of a Cyclone out of it.

Hello?
have you guys forgot that the Silverado SS is AWD as in...you just need to add a bit more HP to blow the doors off the Lightning and a lot more to do it to the RAM...

A similarly powered SS would beat the Lightning off the line, but as the Lightning hooked up, the Ford would still soundly trounce the SS well before the end of the quarter mile.
However, Chevy could remedy that with a simple factory installed supercharger.
