Reg cab Silverado SS

I found this picture of a regular cab silverado SS, Does anyone know if this is going into production for 2003 or is this just some sort of concept? I think it would be wise for them to make both like how Dodge does with the Dakota R/T

Damn thats sweet. With the shorter length then the ext cab and thus a sportier look- that thing rocks.
If a Lightning and a Dodge SRT-10 were parked beside this baby you wouldn't even know it.
Now that F-bodies are history maybe I'd get this- but only reg cab.

THis truck with 380+ HP for under $30K is what the silverado SS should have been. Don't get me wrong the ext cab version is nice too, I would like to see both made.
I there any hope that maybe GMC will come out with a Hot Rod Truck? Reg cab RWD 8.1L 450HP would be nice. Or maybe a new Syclone base off the new Canyon truck with AWD and turbo I6 or I5

Sorry people, it's NOT repeat NOT being produced. Once again GM steps to the plate and strikes out... wussies when are they gonna realize that the L owners have a real truck.. after teasing and promising something that will blow the doors off an L all we get is a lack lustre truck that can't even blow the doors off a T-bird... it sucks.. L's get around 450 tq and what do we get ooooohhh 380 as much as a freakin Escalade... sorry people just pissed at GM and i think from now on GM can shove off... i'll stick to the used f-bods when i can buy one and they can kiss their sales percentage good-bye. (Sheesh i thought since they figured out the truck market they could come up with something good)
DAMN!
I just bought my wife a new Tahoe and was thinking of a new truck for myself. I was looking at std cab Chevies until I saw the Silverado SS. If it was a std cab, I'd be on the phone with my dealer as we speak. As an extended cab... I'm going to have to think about it. (That usually means "no".)

no offense or anything but the competition has moved up so much that if we stick with excuses we will be left in the dust... well we all know that is how GM works so there is no point... what i am trying to get at is that there is a tremendous HP and tq war that is waging... we all know that.. it's all about upping the ante... yes 380 would have been unthinkable years ago but we have to look to the future not the past, we can't just follow the leader GM needs to get some ***** and move to the head of the pack....from a truck standpoint it's just a matter of time...before everyone comes to kick GM's butt... look at the Japanese.. the Acura's V6's were boasting 240 hp and GM responded with 270HP that is the way it should be wipe out the competition, yes they only got a 5hp bump but at least they are ahead of the pack... the Tundra has a good motor and you can be sure that FORD and TOYOTA will be improving on their engines, why can't GM.. we know the redesigned F-150 will look good and outtough the Ram and if an old design like the current one is such a hot cake wait for the real new F-150 to wipe the pants off GM's twins... The don't even advertise the trucks in a good way... i mean common they win the MT truk of the year and all they get are a bunch of overgrown cowboys... common we need come competition kicking ads like toyota and Ford touting their heritage and so on...
I'm sorry but GM is begining to sound like a General Mistake
Some of MT's other fantastic "of the year" picks include Citation, Vega, Caprice Classic LTZ, Dodge Spirit R/T, the current Chevy Malibu, and a whole host of "memorable" vehicles (they don't choose the best, just the most significant newly introduced model) .
As for Acura's 240hp V6's, I'm still trying to think of one GM non blown V6 that has more power. As for Ford & Toyota improving their engines, Ford's 4.6L/281cid 265 hp engine still gets worse milege than our 5.7L/345hp engine. Compare Acura's 240 horse V6 fuel economy to say a quad cam 300+ Northstar V8. They have little choice but to improve.
GM Powertrain in my opinion is the one star of GM that has of late always com through. Even with old technology, making fuel efficient engines that put out power, no one else comes close.
As far as the truck wars go, though I like both the Lightning and the upcomming Ram R/T, I'm not in a bunch over Silverado SS because 1) Those vehicles will be more limited & expensive than Silverado SS, 2)GM is at the threshold of outselling Ford with some of the best trucks ever made, 3) Though admittedly neat in idea, what honestly is the purpose in having a 2 1/2 ton 150mph pickup truck that accelerates as fast as a Z28?!, and finally 4)It's unlikely ou and I will be buying not only Lightning or R/T, but also(I admit I'm guessing in your case) the Silverado SS even, if it came with a nuclear powerplant for an engine.

I think we all know it's NOT being produced.....right now that is.
The reg cab "concept" looks production ready though AND the very existence is faint hope.
Too bad they can't make anything cheaper for the enthusiast. (hint, lose the AWD)
Gotta be making big bucks....
or else you get to drive a Caveiler!

Perhaps I'm not as upset as some of you are about not having the fastest truck.
But with that said....I would make some version of the Vortec 8.1 at least optional.
That seems like a no brainer to me. It fits, the engineering is done, and there is no concern about it.....well, handling like a truck with a big block over the front wheels.

Not to rain on anyone' parade.......but am I the only one here who couldn't give less of a rat's @$$ about trucks??!!
I guess I still consider trucks as tools...meant to haul our cars and other loads....when I want to go fast, turn, stop and perform, I want a car!!
To me these trucks are just silly..........give me a HD truck with the ability to haul a 28' trailer and my car and then I'll think about it......I'm sure GM/Ford/Dodge would love for us to buy these huge profit makers, but count me out....I want a sports CAR...where no-one will wonder where my gun rack is.....

I'm not really into trucks (and pretty much HATE large SUV's), but regardless as to what some of you may think, GM is right on target with their trucks, and GM powertrain deserves raises for the amount of power & fuel economy they've gotten of their powerplants. It's the CARS GM needs alot of help in, and hopefully it won't take till 2007 to fix it.
