Why not a a S/C or better yet turbo version for overseas.

I think a 250-280 hp Turbo Ecotec Camaro might be just the ticket for Europe or Asia.

Chrysler has been selling turbo versions of their cars (ones we can't get here, due to emissions), in Mexico and South America for years....and with great success.
IMO, that is not the market Camaro appeals to at all.

Let Cavalier or Vibe or something like that go after that market.

By trying to make the base Camaro a 'rice-fighter' , you are likely to alienate your core group, and not likely, IMO, to get a lot of 'ricer buyers' to go for a Camaro anyway...

Is there a way to develop a car that appeals to both?

I ask because the Cavalier & Mustang are pretty close in size, the next Camaro is likely going to be coupe, GM is more likely to boost F5 performance via lighter vweight than a massive increase of horsepower, and the idea of 340hp or so in a chassis that's lightweight enough (but still is rigid) to get 3800 V6 performance with just a normal aspirated Ecotec has me all hot & bothered.

Perhaps, but why bother when you can have 2 cars go after 2 seperate thing at full speed rather than try and have one car be 2 things at the same time?

You have to assume Cavalier (or whatever the 05 version will be called) is going to be around whether there is a Camaro or not... so why not try to make each the best in it's respective catagory?

But maybe Camaro needs to appeal to a broader market. If it's not apprpriate for NA..(and I believe we are about to have an interesting debate on this here), maybe an "export" model could be developed with normally aspirated, supercharged or turbocharged Ecotec.

I don't think we can necessarilly compare it to Cavalier....because Camaro would be a international RWD performance coupe.

Who knows....once they catch on, maybe we can send them some fire-breathing V8 Z/28's.

Ha! You want GM to spend the money to develop a turbo/supercharged version of the ecotec and put it in a Camaro strictly for overseas sales? Not too likely. What is the problem with a strong NA V6 in the base car?

Problem #1. I don't thing GM is willing to spend the money on a truly glorious V6 for the Camaro (a la Nissan).

Problem #2. A turbo Ecotec would be cheaper, better fit into the new GM performance Ecotec image, and turbo engines are U*N*B*E*L*I*E*V*A*B*L*Y hotroddable.
