Don't get me wrong, it is still a Performance truck, it just doesn't have the kind of performance F-body people are used to (thats us)
It also comes with heated leather seats and other luxury item not found on most sport trucks. If I had the money to get a nice truck for my second car the ext. cab Silverado SS would be it! after I bought a Lingenfelter Vette of course.

Put potent V8(375hp or more) into base pickup. Offer manual. I and many others would buy one. Could it be more simple? I don't think so. Someone tell me why this fairly inexpensive solution wouldn't sell, hell I'm about to build one of my own if GM doesn't.

Actually, the Silverado SS starts at $40k. The HD F150 lists at $37,295...and that's just about fully loaded (including tonneau cover, chrome wheels, etc.). The "target price" for the regular cab SS was merely a comment by Rick Scheidt, the Marketing Director for the Silverado. The thing about the standard cab Silverado SS concept is that they have been showing it around for years. Yes it had the other body on it before...... in various different iterations....... however it was the same 395hp 6.6L powertrain.
They didn't build it then........ and knowing how faithfully GM builds their concept vehicles
they probably won't build this one.
My guess on the standard cab Silverado SS is this.......... RWD, same wheel tire package from the extra cab, buckets, power everything, and the standard 345hp 6.0 that is in the extra cab. This is easy, and makes sense from a pure business standpoint (as in all of the R&D is already done........ no new emissions and crash standards to meet...... so-on). I also think that it will be in the same basic price range of the current Lightning....... or around $30-35K.
If you look at this logically, from a business standpoint, you are not going to price your limited production SS truck the same as you would your standard 5.3 Silverado. You are going to make people pay dearly for the right to have that 6.0 in their half ton truck. Also, as has been proven for years, no frills...... bare bones packages do not sell to the general public. They mainly sell in fleet purchases. GM would not limit their market this way. Even they are not that dumb.
Of course, you are free to dream about your $23K 400hp truck. I will use that same logic and dream about my new '05 500hp Lightning for $32K.
