There is no solid confirmation of the price on the 500HP Lightning. Considering the current L has an MSRP of less than $35k, I think it's a stretch to guess that the new L will be "in the $40's".
It is, however, pretty safe to assume that there will be about a snowball's chance in h*ll of GM bringing a 390hp regular cab Silverado SS to market for less than $40k.

Funny how people forget that GM only offered a real performance bargain with the 4th gen F-body.
IMO, a regular cab 400hp Silverado would stoke the fire a bit and force DCM and Ford to up the ante, although they already have plans to do just that.
Also IMO, the Syclones and Typhoons were neat trucks. But they were compact trucks with a Buick motor in them. It's kind of stacking the deck to compare a little S10-based Syclone against a full size L.

the4.3s were chevy not buick.

Why not stack the deck? Keep the S-10 for a while and spend some of that surplus capacity wherever they build the LS1 on a real S-10 SS. People have swapped an LS1 into S-10s before with amazing results. I believe there's a Lingenfelter S-10 with a sub-3 second 0-60.

I all ready knew the '03 Silverado SS was about $40K, (I think it starts at $38K or $39K) the HD F-150 is $38K. the Silverado SS isn't ment to compete with the 500HP reg cab trucks. The Extended Cab Silverado SS is more of a luxury truck than a performance truck. and why won't GM bring a 390hp regular cab Silverado SS to market for less than $40k??? there target pice for this truck is under $30K.

take a look at http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/auto...vrolet/ss.html

I would love to see that regular cab SS come to the market. It really is a beautiful truck . Plus it offers something the current Lightening doesn't, a manual trans.

...and now SS stands for "Luxury Liner" instead of Super Sport?!?!

This truck was not/is not intended to compete with SRT and Lightning?

Help me with this...

No it isn't. GM reps have said this several times. Maybe not the best badging to use on it in that case, but it's what they chose. Not the fastest one of the group, but one of the best looking.

500HP Lightning and SRT-10 will both cost in the $40's. I'd rather see Chevy made a 390HP reg cab SS with for under $30K.

Then make a new AWD GMC Syclone to kick some Lightning and SRT-10 ***
You may not be as far out there as you think...

I should restate...they took a page from the Buick book and put an intercooled turbo on the 4.3 V6. I like what they did in terms of using AWD on the SyTy's. The only problem with both of them is that they seriously fall on their face after about 70mph. Ever race one? I've raced plenty and although they launch extremely well (even on radials), I'd usually drive right by them in 3rd gear.
Stock vs. stock, a new L (much less the upcoming 500hp L) will stomp a Syclone or Typhoon.

It might be a bit more complicated than that. I don't think it would be easy to just stuff an LS1 into a mini-truck and sell it to the public. I'm sure they're would be hurdles such as safety, emissions, crash testing, etc. to overcome. Do you really think GM is going to do such a thing?

Actually, the Silverado SS starts at $40k. The HD F150 lists at $37,295...and that's just about fully loaded (including tonneau cover, chrome wheels, etc.). The "target price" for the regular cab SS was merely a comment by Rick Scheidt, the Marketing Director for the Silverado. Do you really think they are going to boost output of the 6.0 to 395hp, drop in a 6-speed tranny, graft in a 5-link rear suspension from Tahoe and make numerous other performance upgrades and improvements and cut the price $10k? Uhh...it's nice to dream. It would be a nice truck, no doubt, but it ain't gonna' be $30k (assuming GM even builds it). IMO, this truck would sticker damn close to $40k.

I agree. A beautiful truck with plenty of power and a 6-speed. It's a wonderful concept.

The truck wont weigh in at over $30k. Would you pay more than $30,000 for a truck that has a rubber mat, no power door locks or windows, and a bench seat? Even I wouldnt even think about that.

Wink

ROTFL! Sure...carpeting, power door locks, windows and a bench seat are worth $10k. Better yet, they offset the additional cost of the powertrain and suspension upgrades from the current Silverado SS.
If you think that GM will sell a limited production, 400hp, 6-speed truck with a multitude of upgrades for less than $30k, then I've got some real estate to sell you.
Like I said, it's nice to dream, but eventually those dreams crash into reality.

Probably not, no. I understand the things they'd have to go through in order to get a vehicle like that out. It's still a good concept, and I think that the fact that it is a good concept is why GM is avoiding it.

Let's go ahead and start a betting pool on the layout of the Colorado SS. I'm putting $20 on I-5, automatic, bed cover, and body-colored plastic cladding, with maybe a wheel package and a 1" drop.

Going to short bed and short cab, minus the AWD, luxury features and a lot of standard power stuff.................you bet that is worth 10k less.

Where's the real estate? I'd put a down payment on it today.
