I know someone here explained this before, but i can't remember...What are those 10 "cigar cutters" at the top of the concept engine for?

They are actually the intake runners for the cylinders - 1 each per cylinder.

They were drilled and tapped from the sides and jets were installed to equalize the intake velocities between all cylinders so the computer can better control ignition (i.e. no lean or rich cylinders standing alone). These jets are not visible as they are below the shroud.

Remember, although this engine is funtional and running, it is also a show engine, and several concessions were made just for this prototype alone. This was one such concession. The production version is likely to have an air filter and mass-air sensor in line to monitor air conditions and input velocities/consumption.
These intakes on the engine of which we speak were just "to look good" for the show.

BTW - in the sense of nostalgia, these inlets resemble the old Weber downdrafts carbs and even the early Weber horns used in early fuel injection days (back in the '60's.). I managed to find a decent pic to shake out the cobwebs for some of us!

Some GM-guys help me out... didn't Weber's come on some GM stuff too? I think the Vette got early fuel injection systems using the Webers, but I can't recall the year model... 1966 maybe?

Can't think of any Weber equipped Vettes. The early FI Corvettes had a Rochester FI setup.

But those Weber setups were beautiful. Many, many years ago, Hot Rod magazine had a special "Induction" issue. On the cover was a smallblock Chevy (I think in the engine bay of a road race inspired Vega).....it had a special crossram Weber intake with four sidedraft Webers......WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MOTOR!

I think that I kept that issue handy for months....just so I could stare at the cover photo.

I'm sure I still have that issue.....buried deep in my archives.

No Problemo!
Glad to service you!

I STILL think there was a Weber set up for a Vette...
I recall seeing something when I was in high school...
maybe a blue 67 stingray? Of course, it might not have been stock either.
I simply am not that up on unique Vette offerings from 35 years ago...

I think it was "Kensler"(sp?) or something like that, not Weber..
