A quick run down of GM's upcoming platforms
A quick run down of GM's upcoming platforms
Theta: FWD SUVs to replace the Aztec-Rendevous class. To be produced in Cambridge Ontario, but will also be assembled in other countries
Kappa: RWD sports cars spawning Solstice & Curve and at least 2 other models. To be produced exclusively at Wilmington Delaware. Designed to be profitable running as low as 20,000 units a year.. per model.
Zeta: RWD and AWD chassis that is the "Large & Performance car" chassis GM mentioned a long time ago. Developed by Holden, it will be produced here in the US 1st by Buick, then Pontiac, and then Chevrolet. It will also be the starting point for the GTO and a Chevrolet "Performance car".
Lambda: A pretty odd program that was initially supposed to spawn everything from pickup trucks & SUVs. The odd thing was it's primarily a FWD-AWD "car-like" structure. It was physically big enough that it was toned down because of some concerns it would take sales from GM's large trucks & SUVs. It's now going to provide the basis for primarily SUVs, and vehicles that might even be called cars. GM's waiting to see Honda's car-based pickup's sales before commiting to a Lambda pickup (Honda has one coming out soon).
GMT900: This is GM's new full size truck line which will begin production in the spring of 2006 starting off with GM's full sized SUVs (Tahoe, Envoy, and Esaclade) Arlington, Texas, and Janesville, Wisconsin. GM will be making a sport of taking it's time to introduce the new truck line because the stakes are so high. The Volume expect on this structure is a mind boggling 1.6 million vehicles (minimum) running in at least 7 assembly plants! Oshawa will start the pickups in mid 2007, then Ft Wayne, Pontiac, & Flent will be slowly phased in. Ironically, both Toyota & Nissan will also have new large trucks in the same time frame......major truck war brewing here, folks.

The only auto plant in Cambridge is a Toyota plant (and it's running flat out).
Re: A quick run down of GM's upcoming platforms
Is there any of the current FWD platforms that could accept AWD for preformance versions of vehicles, like for example the Grand Prix's platform G-Body?, Epison(sp?) on the Malibu/G6, and Delta Cobalt/Ion?
Re: A quick run down of GM's upcoming platforms
Epsilon can be made for AWD, and Saab, Pontiac and possible Euro Caddy are looking at it.
Theta isnt "upcoming". Its already here.
I think Chi will be a larger Epsilon used to replace W.

I would like for the Nox to get the 3.5. I love my 3.5! Or maybe DOHC 2.8 for the Saturn, 3.5 for the Chevy, and in the Pontiac the 3.9. Thats how I would run it.
Re: A quick run down of GM's upcoming platforms
The Arlington Texas plant, that makes big SUVs: Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade is under going a $140 million dollar expansion for an all new assembly line for a all new SUV coming out in 2007. I got this info from a local newspaper site off the web.
What new SUV will be coming out in 2007, other than redesigned Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade? Maybe Hummer?
