There's a mere 10 horsepower spread between the 4.8 & the 5.3 in the Silverado (285 vs 295hp) and 35 lbs/ft torque (295 vs 330).

The 4.8 still has enough torque to shred the 4T65E automatic.

Y are they getting rid of the 5.7? What is the GTO getting? a 6.0?

Why? Well nothing will be using the 5.7L anymore. Its has slowly been disaperaing from GM cars and Trucks for a few years now.

Trucks haven't used it since 98, C6 doesn't use it---no reason to keep it around. Bigger is better afterall.

Really hope they drop the 4.2L I6 in the fullsized trucks--that 4.3L needs to go.

The 6.0 LS2 will be the replacement small block for all Holden and GM sports cars.
The 5.7 in trucks were different then the 5.7 LS1/6.

GM trucks havent used a 5.7 since the last of the Vortec engines in the 2000(old style )-prior , only 4.8 , 5.3 and 6.0 V8's .

Wrong , the old style was in production till 2000 , even though the new Silvarado was out in 99 . They both were sold at the same time .

In the SUVs that is (Tahoe, Yukin, Suburban ect) but the pickup trucks haven't seen the 5.7L since 98 and it was the highest volume application

Whatever the case the 5.7 has been slowly weaned out of GM products and there is no reason to keep it around anymore.
Long live the 6.0L!
