Purchase a new GM?

So what is the reality I would be facing if I were to purchase a new GM vehicle? It seems anything could happen now. Government funding, BK, Cut of vehicle development. Is there any way GM can go under and any vehicle 100K warranty would be dead?

I have been considering a Saab 9-3 purchase.

Our lease is up in February and my wife wants a Sky Redline. I'm wondering the exact same thing.

GM isn't going to just go away. They will get bailed out or sold. Either way I would think something like a warranty would have to be honored. You break a deal like that and no one will ever buy those cars again.

$5000 rebate on Sky redline and you can use GM card earnings. My buddy in NJ bought an 07 and had to pay sticker and couldnt use the $2000 on his GM card. Plus he is having rear end issues now.

Good thing this wasn't posted in the lounge

And this is primarly effecting GM North America, correct? Saab is doing rather well over in Europe, if I have read correctly. If GM NA goes TU, Holden will still be around, as well as Subaru, and Saab, no?

Saab has reverted back to their original warranty program . 4yr/50K mile bumper to bumper with 3yr/36K mile free scheduled maintenance . This is already in effect at Saab .

I was told by the salesman the GM 100K mile powertrain was added on as well.

The depreciation on 9-3's is steep, check out some used ones before making your decision.

Sweden won't let Saab sink, so I wouldn't worry about that. I'll bet a keg and tap that Chevrolet and Cadillac will still be around even if GM is bought or goes bankrupt.

As far as the rest of GM's divisions, badge engineering and overlapping models have one benefit: and GM division can work on them.

Even the G8 is no more rare here in the US than Corvettes, so even that shouldn't be an issue.

Yah, I have been looking at used ones and the depreciation sure is steep like you say. With this Red Tag sale, they are offering discounts on top of the Supplier price, like in the ballpark of 4K off the supplier discount.

I can get a 9-3 with cold weather package & Moonroof for around $27.2K. I would imagine there is a maybe a little wiggle room on that price too.

$32,840 MSRP
$31,907 Supplier price
$27,157 Final price

Thats $5,683 off MSRP and $4,750 off supplier price.

I was actually going to post the same thread. I have about $2000 in GM card earnings, but with all the doom and gloom I wasn't too sure buying a new GM car would be a wise move.

I was thinking of either the Camaro, G8, or CTS. Now I just don't know.

I am amazed that there are actually people who are considering not buying a GM car based on the current state of affairs of GM's economic issues.

And yet, there are those saying GM needs to go ahead and declare bankrupcy. Wow, what are total contracdiction of ideas. That's make it 10,000 times worse.

Personally, I'm shocked the GM Card program hasn't been thrown under the bus by now....

One can argue that a GM BK would be the best thing for them considering healthcare, unions, etc. But then again, the poor pension holders and stock holders.

I want to stay loyal to GM and feel like I am doing my part to help them by being a loyal customer. I don't want to get screwed in the end though. How that can exactly happen, I have no idea. Thats what I'm wondering.

Wagoner has stated that outsiders that have conducted surveys as to what would happen to potential customers if GM declared bankruptcy is very ugly. Resale value, parts, service, warrantys all come to mind.
