It sounds to me like they're just going to say 'look at us and this nifty car' with a production version of the volt, but they won't actually be available for some time still.

Regardless, I bet some engineers are putting in some over-over-over time right now.

Agreed, but I didn't think it was that far along.

Since Toyota announced their plug-in hybrid launch for 2010 (to match the volt) it has started a race.

Pretty sure what we'll see is a production spec model (maybe minus some tweaking of programming that remains to be done). However, they won't have battery production all ramped up by then to start selling them. But it'll be proof they are "done" and the vehicle is real.

Some? I'll bet that it is quite a lot, which is good!

I've been wondering what the production car is going to look like for a while, so it'll be cool to see it. The last word we had on the appearance was that it would look nothing like the concept, because the concept's aerodynamics were terrible.

If this means they finally have more than 5-10 people working on the Volt that would be great.

Yeah, until now it was something that was sitting in the back of the shop and every now and then where there is nothing else to do, they would blow the dust off it and wrench on once in a while just for variety. Kind of a little side hobby, especially since big trucks and SUV's are practically driving themselves off the lots.

If you went back in time not all that long ago, you would be 100% correct more or less.
