Why the ZL1 were both built for curves? The aluminum 427 was lighter and helped restore balance to the car. That is what made is special.

SS seems too plain....Grand Sport doesnt sound bad.
I like GS but it actually needs to be spelled out to make it stand out. Corvette Grand Sport, a whole new level of performance.
I will also add this. If they get 100k for this Vette, they will need a LOT to run with the cars.
Im talking carbon ceramic brakes, more carbon fiber, and a totaly revised HIGH END interior. Plastics should be used for switchgear only, and HIGH end plastic. Hand stiched leather dash, suede interior parts, brushed aluminum using REAL metal please!! There is going to have to be major changes in order for Corvette for it to be taken seriously at 100k.
And that would put it above the new SRT10, Corvette would lose its price edge over Viper.
I don't think you have to worry about that. GM knows Corvette represents the best of GM and to not go all out on the all out Corvette would be suicide.

I might be wrong here, but I thought gibbs ordered the original 50 ZL1 Camaros for drag racing. I think he had to make sure 50 were built in order to homologate them. But yes, they did make great road races.

As for the corvette, there were only 2 built, and I think they were both just driven for fun.

As for the actualy origins of the ZL1 engine, once again I may not remember correctly, but I believe they were designed by the corvette racing team in the mid/late 60's for racing similiar to the current Z06-R.

In the end, reduced weight is good for any type of racing, so maybe it's a mute point.

I say that the BEST name if we bring one from the past would be ZR1. It has history (looking it up) and it has a bad *** tone to it. C6 ZR1 would fit perfectly.

ZR1 FTW!!!!

Based on its racing history, Grand Sport or GS would be a great alternative. Great suggestion.

I love the ZR-1 name (I had a '90) but I'm not sure it's it's right for this car, though it'll certainly be "King of the Hill" if everything goes the way we're hearing.

Grand Sport is a great name, but GS is not.

I like remembering ZR1 as the LT5 DOHC C4 Corvette. But it is a great name, that why I like ZR9 (might as well use 9 since the engine is a LS9)
