If the car is $100K and limited to 1,000 units, there is no way that it is the next Z06. Too expensive, and too limited production.

I like Stingray for sentimental reasons.

They're gonna name it the Z24...ia tribute to the Cavalier. Or maybe Z31 for all the crossover Lumina fans they're hoping to get.

I understand the significance of some of the names, but come on, a lot sound really akward or just silly. "Zora"? "Manta Ray"? I can see stingray, because it sounds a bit more nasty. I can't imagine having a supervette and some guy asking me what it is, and I say "Zora"...I'd much rather just say some numbers and letters than that. I also like it's current 'name', "Blue Devil"

It is NOT the "next Z06". Z06 will remain a separate model.

I suggest being skeptical of some of the "inside info" you see on Corvette Forum. There are a couple of guys there who are telling stories that aren't supported by the evidence.
A production version will not be called SS.

Wasn't Dave Hill's original mission with the Z06 to deliver supercar-like performance within the reach of the average Corvette enthusiast? This isn't supposed to be some uber-exclusive car.

Hell, I think the $70k+ price tag on the current Z06 pushes that concept to the max. The only way to do it is to offer base coupe/vert, Z06, ultra-Z06. Make that ultra Z06, whatever you want to call it, the 6-figure car.

If someone asks you what a "Corvette Zora" is, or what "Zora" means, it really wouldn't be worth your time to answer them. Look, I suggested the name a long time ago. (I'm not sure if I was the first, but I was one of the firsts on this website.) The Ferrari Enzo honors Enzo Ferrari. I was looking to honor the savior of the Corvette, Zora Arkus-Duntov. I figured GM's Ferrari killer super Vette should do that, afterall, if not for Zora, there would be no Corvette today... at least not as we know it.

Corvette Mako. A tribute to the "Mako Shark" Corvettes. Plus, "Mako" sounds badass.

my vote goes for ZL-1 or ZR-1 since they have a actual history and the names seem more fitting... but ill always see them as the blue devil

If memory serves, I was the first to mention it around here, but I won't claim to be the first period.

Would hate to sound like a jerk because someone's interested in my (hypothetical! ha) car, and I snub them b/c they don't know Corvette history/lore.

I just think Zora sounds kinda soft/lame. Enzo has some edge to the name. Zora? Sounds like a feminine title for Zoro. No disrespect to Duntov.

Red mentioned the name first though.

This might be over the head of some of the older guys here, but weren't Zoras the names of the blue heads that would pop out of the water and shoot you in Zelda? That doesn't exactly generate great images in my mind when I think of a car, but obviously this would not effect anywhere near even some of the public.

I like the ZL1 idea myself.

My first choices would be:

1. Grand Sport
2. ZR-1
3. Stingray

The Grand Sports of the 1960's went toe to toe with Shelby's Cobras. I've always seen them as sort of the unsung hero of Vette history. The C4 ZR-1 was aimed squarely at Ferrari, so it would be nice to see history repeated.

Everytime we have a discussion on here about GM bringing back old names, it makes me think about how much Toyota or Honda would KILL to have a name with as much history as "Corvette". GM can even shelf names like "Firebird" and "Stingray". The Japanese makes would love to have names with as much brand equity as those. The closest name from Japan that stands out is Nissan's Z cars, or maybe the Skyline (which it looks like Nissan won't be using for the newest version). Perhaps Toyota can rely on the company name alone (they did kill the Celica afterall, which had some identity), but I still think they would like to have some history to dig into (they're most recognizable design is the old Land Cruiser, which the FJ Cruiser pays homage to). Sorry to high-jack the thread, but its just something else to think about.

ZR-1 was a high tech Corvette. Something about a blower on a production V8 that is in a pick up truck or suv doesnt mean to me high tech.

2nd, I would really hope that this engine is also hand built at Wixom.

ZL1 gives me the image of a drag racer.

I like my creation, the Corvette GT1. Rival the GT2 and GT3 Porsche, the Vette's European couterpart.

I dont like Z07 or Z06-R either..seems stupid and childish.

SS seems too plain....Grand Sport doesnt sound bad.

I will also add this. If they get 100k for this Vette, they will need a LOT to run with the cars.
Im talking carbon ceramic brakes, more carbon fiber, and a totaly revised HIGH END interior. Plastics should be used for switchgear only, and HIGH end plastic. Hand stiched leather dash, suede interior parts, brushed aluminum using REAL metal please!! There is going to have to be major changes in order for Corvette for it to be taken seriously at 100k.
And that would put it above the new SRT10, Corvette would lose its price edge over Viper.

I would still rather see ZR1 or ZL1. There already is a Porsche GT1, and although it hasn't been made in awhile, it is still gonna seem weird.
