Any idea if the price will increase or decrease for the 2005 model?

Rumor is that there will be a very slight bump in price... but not unlike the standard price bump most models get from one model year to the next... so it should be quite a nice group of upgrades for basically free.

I really thought about holding out for an 05 GTO, but 2 factors weighed on my move to get the 04:

1) The rebates were NOW. $3500, plus $500 bonus from my GM Card account (on top of my 5% earnings) made a GREAT deal, IMO, and I doubt the 05's will have the rebates out of the gate.

2) The 05's were not due to start arriving until December... I got my GTO about 2.5 months ago, and I didn't really want to wait and miss the chance at these rebates.

We'll see if I made the right choice or not....

From my point of view, dealer arrogance was the single biggest problem. The first one I looked at in the showroom, they wouldn't even allow you to TOUCH it! Next time, you could touch it, but you couldn't actually SIT in it. Then, you could sit, just not drive. By September, they were begging people, "Want to test drive one today?" Lack of rebates and high sticker prices?!!!!?? How about outrageous price mark-up and ridiculous attitudes. This is a Pontiac, not a Ferrari! I paid $25,399 for my 04. The 05's sticker price went up over $2,000! I think the production "cut" was merely adjusting the numbers to better match the market for this car. There will still be great deals this time next year on the 05's.

Darth, You made a good choice. If I didn't need/want a truck I'd be driving a GTO right now. I test drove one and loved it. It is like an M3 with torque.

Re: Pontiac will cut '05 GTO production by 30%.

2004 A4 car is $33,495 total MSRP.
2005 A4 car is $33,940 + $700 destination = $34,640 + $1,000 gas guzzler tax = $35,640.
$2,145 increase assuming the gas guzzler tax carries over to 2005 model.

Whelp. There goes the "slight" price increase out the window.

Well... I didn't... I bought an M6.

But, I'm sure the 2005 M6 will have a parallel price increase to the A4... so it's probably gonna wash...

Hold on a sec...You have to pay destination and the gas guzzler tax on the 2004 as well. So we're only talking about $500, right??

Re: Pontiac will cut '05 GTO production by 30%.

The 2004 model TOTAL MSRP (with destination and gas guzzler tax) is $33,495. The M6 will be a couple of hundred less than A4 since it is a $695 option but doesn't get tabbed with the gas guzzler tax. These prices are all assuming that they are listing price the same as last year on the website; i.e. base plus destination, but not gas guzzler tax. If the tax is included in the base MSRP this year (unlike last year) then the 05 will be $1,000 less than my post above and would show a more reasonable increase over the 04.

The price quote on the 2004 included the destination and gas guzzler.

I'm wondering if the 33,940 includes the destination and gas guzzler as well.

$33,940 DOES NOT INCLUDE DESTINATION CHARGE. I'm not positive about the gas guzzler tax, but that is not the way they listed it last year, so I have to assume that they did not include the $1,000 gas guzzler tax in the base price this year.

The sticker from my 04 GTO listed price as:
STANDARD VEHICLE PRICE: $31,795.00
GAS GUZZLER TAX: $1,000.00
TOTAL VEHICLE & OPTIONS: $32,795.00
DESTINATION CHARGE: $700.00
TOTAL VEHICLE PRICE: $33,495.00

The $33,960 is the STANDARD VEHICLE PRICE for the 2005 model, ergo TOTAL VEHICLE PRICE on the 2005 should be $35,640.

You can't prove anything about a car unless you really push it pretty hard. I've never "caught air" with my Z28, but there again, I didn't buy it off the lot.

Most buyers are timid on a test drive, often regretting the purchase later. I open up a car on a test drive. Every buyer should.

I come from a family where timid driving is frowned upon.

1. Salesmen rarely accompany me on a test drive. The last time one did, I still drove where I wanted, how I wanted. We got back at the dealership a whole hour and more than a few miles later, and NO, I didn't buy the vehicle. I got one at another dealership that still had just 10 miles on it.

2. Since the Firehawk disappeared, there wouldn't be any reason for me to cross Jason E's path in Pontiac showroom.

3. To quote Jay-Z: "I got 99 problems...."
