Hypothetically if the next V8 Camaro only came with an automatic but the V6 had a manual, would you sacrifice the V8 for the manual.

Rules to the poll:
1) You can't say "if I can't get a V8 and a manual then I'll get carX instead"

2) both trannies have 6 gears
3)V8 is 3400lbs. V6 is 3300lbs.

 

Hey, I love manuals, but my loyalties would have to go 400 hp. I have a v6 bird right now, and I'm kicking myself 6 months later.

 

Oh come on, this isn't a very fair poll!

But since it is what it is.....and if all V8 Camaros were 400 horse automatics...I would feel a tinge of excitement, every time I'd see a V6 manual.

 

Ahh...third gen style eh? Id still be all over teh 400hp, cause Im sure that we will see the 6spd manumatic in it!

 

I prefer autos personally. Manuals are fun to drive, but I get a kick out of embarrasing the 70% of car enthusiasts who have the ridiculous idea that all autos are slow. And we all know autos are faster in the quarter anyway. I cant wait till I get a trans brake for the third gen

So Id be all over more power no doubt.

 

i dont care what they make as long as they keep those goofy paddle shifters out of OUR cars. Let the V6 wannabe sports cars keep em.....and the midlife crisis exotics too

I honestly don't know what I'd do if I HAD to get that particular car...

I can't imagine buying a 400hp car without a manual... then again, I can't imagine buying a 245hp version of a car that offers a 400hp version, unless it's priced way too high.

Depends on how heavy the car is and how powerful/refined the 6 "feels". If I HAD to buy one (like someone would shoot me if I didn't - what the hell kind of poll is this anyway? ), I guess I'd go with the auto IF it is the upcoming six speed, and it ought to have a manumatic mode.

But if the six feels nice and the car is reasonably light, it is quite possible that I'd take the six with a six speed manual and an honest-to-goodness clutch pedal.

When I bought my 2001 Alero (no longer have it), I got the GL4 package: loaded up with leather, 200 W stereo, power seat, 16 inch alloys, etc. (like a GLS) but without the GLS's standard 3.4L V6 and automatic. So I gave up 20 hp and 45 lb-ft in order to have a manual.

But 245 hp to 400 hp is a little bit bigger jump... I loathe 4 speed autos, but a 5 or 6 speed can feel ok...

I would have to say the 6-speed just because all my life I have driven manuals and I am sure that 6 cyl. with enough boost and bolt-ons it would make 400hp too.

I will never HAVE to buy a Camaro, and if those were the only choices I would NOT buy a Camaro.

 

I'd opt for the 400hp version with the Auto.

Manuals are nice, but i go through hell everyday and back driving through stop and go traffic. I did that for a whole year with a heavy/stiff *** aftermarket race/street clutch. I got used to it after a couple of weeks, but it was far from pleasant. Now i drive an A4, and am fairly happy. All my cars serve as DD btw. For a weekend car i wouldn't mind a stick, but for a DD that sees sub-100 miles daily in stop and go traffic (spent upto 5 hours 1 day due to heavy snow/accidents), i'll settle for the auto any day of the week.

 

The top hp Camaro has to come with a manual or I'll be buying something else. Already have a slushbox Camaro and it will be getting a T-56 soon enough, and I already have a daily driver so Ive no need for another automatic.

 

Hey come on now... this is the 'Kobiashi Maru' scenario all over (sorry, I'm a closet old skool StarTrek geek)... a no win scenario . So like Capt. James T. Kirk, I am going to cheat and say that I would buy the auto v8, then rip out the auto tranny and drop in a T56 myself.

 

If it ain't stick, then I ain't buying it. Period. (Fortunately, my wife feels the same way I do. )

 

If that automatic is the new six speed its a much easier choice.
