You mean to say that they're more consistent. Manual will give you higher mph.

 

Why do people care about MPH?

TIME wins races! I really don't give a $h!t how "fast" the car is going at the end.

.....but if you care about that, then cool.........I guess I'll be waiting at the line to watch you cross really "fast"!

400HP V8 > 245HP V6. The tranny won't make a difference.

 

I have an F-body with an auto' and it has close to 400hp... I wouldn't trade it in for V6

 

If your considering a v-6 fbody buy an import with a fart can. You'll be happy you did.

 

You guys with the automatics... what do you do in the 12 or so seconds following the launch at the drag strip? Set your radio presets? Look at the clouds? Examine the interior trim gaps?

 

I'm usually wondering why it's shifting so early... lol

Oh yeah, the poll, wouldn't buy one without an M6 option. As far as I'm concerned, a pony/muscle/sports/performance-car (did I cover everyone's interpretation?) is nothing without a manual. Let the serious drag racer types get a beefy auto aftermarket. If you're serious about drag racing you're not keeping any factory tranny anyway.

 

This poll could have just as easily asked, "would you rather sit in the passenger seat of a V8 or be behind the wheel of a V6," because to a lot of us you're not driving a sports car unless you're doing the shifting yourself.

Not that loyal that I would go for 245hp V6 and pass on a 400hp auto V8.

Thats crazy talk! But I would pay more and wait longer for a manual V8 if all they had on the lot were autos.

I would also take a 305 TPI 5 speed over a 350 TPI auto anyday.

 

Had a manual trans back in '78 for about 4 months. Changed to a th400. Never again will I own a manual PERIOD!!!!!!!!

 

People care about mph because that is ultimately HP to weight ratio. You can have as good a launch as you want, but racing at higher speeds (not drag racing) [edit: or AutoX] will leave your auto where it belongs - back row .

Which line? The starting line? Not a good place to stay, IMO, if you're racing.

It's not that I care about MPH (I do), but I care a lot more about manual tranny.

 

Ha, talk about a biased poll. Of course (most) people would take the auto over a manual if there was that much difference in power. This is more of a "how much horse power are you willing to give up for a manual tranny" poll.

If it were more along the lines of having an auto with 400hp or a manual with 350hp, you would probably see a more realistic conclusion (if that is what you're looking for).

But to answer this poll, I would take an auto and like others have stated, rip it out and put a manual in.

 

I went for the manual v6. Even though i hate the current power of my v6, and even though in this poll itd be 45 hp more, i would still have to go for the manual. i absolutely despise having to drive an auto
