Goof or not, that is the picture GM sent me with the caption, "2004 Impala SS"

Ahh..It is the same body and wheels, just different grill. Sure the engine maybe is just talk and nothing more but Z28x just wanted to see different angles of the car that's the reason for the link.

GM still makes nice wheels - Camaro SS wheels kicked ***, as do ZO6 rims, optional Monte and Impala rims look good too. Pontiac - aside from the cinnamon twist chrome things on the Grand Prix, has a nice array of wheels. Even the hub caps on the Vibe look decent.....for hub caps. Silverado SS rims look ****! Those might be the best wheels for GM in 03 IMO. Look great on that truck.

However....we go back a decade or so and we find some salad shooter wheels.....ick.

You seem to have forgotten the 10-spoke 2000-02 Camaro wheels. Not nice.

I don't see anythign different either.

The wheels could be bigger versions of the diamond cuts, but it's hard to tell, and if they were going to make an SS wheel, wouldn't they make it look different than wheels that already exist?!!?

On top of that, 04 is supposed to bring a sheet metal/fascia freshening, and there isn't anything new there.

ALSO... Chevy has supposedly gone to a GOLD bowtie with a silver outline on the CAR LINE as well... you'd think that'd make that transition with the 04 Impala with the freshening... (New Malibu has it, 03 Cavalier freshening has it...

SO... I really do not think this is it.

After looking very closely at the pic... it does appear to have a different rear deck spoiler... you can see the tip sticking off the edge, unlike the current Impy spoiler... so I am a bit perplexed here...

GM Media Photos

Go here http://www.wieck.com/public/index.html

A search for Impala + SS finds about half a dozen pictures. I suspect there's a bunch of the Monte Carlo SS as well.

poSSum, you beat me to it. Those wheels don't look like the reported 17" wheels. Chevy only gets 240 hp for it's S/C 3800.

Here's another link. http://visit.media.gm.com:8080/UM/T....12.2159.1.1605

Well, if these are correct (I searched for both) they didn't change anything as far as the sheetmetal goes.

OK, I am pretty boggled now.

Ya, but those look awful close to the current Impala "Sport Appearance" ground effects...

Check the Monte Pics out... they look identical to the 2000-2003 Monte SS with the Sport Appearance package as well...

As has been posted by a few of us here, this is a temporary and shortlived version of the Impy & M/C.

2006 is the one you want to wait for. The 2004 is Bob Lutz's stopgap edition to bring Impala & Chevrolet back into the performance game.

The remarkable thing about the 2006 Impala (see my other thread) is that the RWD Impala and Monte Carlo project just got started last year!

Assuming Camaro was approved by now, it would be no more than a year behind. Just in time for it's 40th anniversairy.

Just a thought.

jrp4uc - 'tis true...those base Camaro/Z28 wheels were horrific.

Nice job on getting the photos of the Impala SS and Monte SS so quick guys.

Im liking that Impala more and more every day with that sport appearance package. I wonder what a supercharged SS is going to run $$ ? Can't wait to see the 06's.
