Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro

I just want to post something. I want to give you guys the dimensions of just the smallest and biggest Camaro's of each Gen (not the inbetweens) for reference and a better idea of what the medium should actually be as I feel people are losing sight here.

1st Gen 108.0" Wheelbase
67 - L: 184.6" W: 72.5" H: 51.0"
69 - L: 186.0" W: 74.0" H: 51.1"

2nd Gen 108.0" Wheelbase
70 - L: 188.0" W: 74.4" H: 50.1"
80 - L: 197.6" W: 74.5" H: 49.2"

3rd Gen 101.0" Wheelbase
82 - L: 187.8" W: 72.0" H: 49.8"
92 - L: 192.6" W: 72.8" H: 50.4"

4th Gen 101.1" Wheelbase
93 - L: 193.2" W: 74.1" H" 51.3"
02 - L: 193.5" W: 74.1" H: 51.2"

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro

● G35 is very close to the size of a 1st Gen Camaro
● teal98, I'm willing to bet the LS2 is lighter than the VQ35 DOHC V6
● Has anyone been in a G35? It's smaller than a 4th gen on the outside, yet Bigger than a 4th gen on the inside. A god damn Aveo or cavi coupe has more interior space than the 4th gen Camaro
● 4th gen front over hang was huge, drop it down to 3-series sized and you will save a foot right there

All good points....especially the one on interior dimensions.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro

It has more interior room because of the huge 112" wheelbase. 108" or 110" would do just fine on a 185.5"-187.5" Camaro. A G35 has no front overhang at all, it looks like it was flatened, which looks pretty silly. The 5th Gen needs a little overhang and shouldn't look or be the size of a sedan looking coupe, G35 or not.

THE GTO IS CLOSER!

2005 GTO:
Wheelbase 109.8 in.
Length 189.8 in.
Width 72.5 in.
Height 54.9 in.
Tread - F (Track) 61.4 in.
Tread - R (Track) 62.1 in.

1967 Camaro:
Wheelbase 108.0 in.
Length 184.7 in.
Width 72.5 in.
Height 51.4 in.
Tread - F (Track) 59.0 in.
Tread - R (Track) 58.9 in.

You guys need to have you heads examined. If you love the G35 so much go buy one. Just quit trying to screw up OUR Camaro.

Or......

If you love the GTO so much, go buy one...and quit trying to turn the Camaro into one. I understand that they're practically giving them away now.

BTW, look at your own numbers. The G35 is closer in length to to a 1st gen than a GTO.

While GTO's pile up at dealers like chordwood, G35s have waiting lists and are recording record sales numbers. With no rebates.

G35 coupes are outselling GTO's....even with less power, and higher transaction prices. Someone take note.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro

sylisticly, my ideal 5th gen would be the 4th gen given a similar C5->C6 treatement..

A little off the overhangs on each end, stretch out the wheelbase (although the Camaro could probably add in another 5-8 inches more!), and maybe barely less of a windshield rake, and a better interior.. however, this obviously would have to be on a new platform..

which actually yeilds dimensions similar to what IZ28 says..

And I rather have it be a little more expensive, but still have a great value/performance/quality per $ ratio...

than have it cheaper, but seemingly poorer value/quality per $ ratio..

You know the point I was making. If Zeta is good enough for the GTO, why can it be good enough for the Camaro when dimensionally they are fairly close?

But the GTO is closer to the Mustang and 3rd Gen Camaro.

Do you actually think size has anything to do with it? Its because the GTOs are too damn expensive and the dealers were marking them up initially.

Again.... price, availability and demand. The GTO and G35 are for completely different markets.

Yeah, the new, larger Mustang is almost as large as the GTO. But the smaller SN95 literally buried the Camaro in sales. Was size a part of that equation? Absolutely! I talk to lots of non-brand loyal Mustang buyers. And size is always a determining issue.

Do you actually think size has anything to do with it?
YES! YES! YES! Except for afew 4th and 3rd gen holdouts here and elsewhere...the whole world thinks that anything beyond 185-187" is a "large car".

Its because the GTOs are too damn expensive and the dealers were marking them up initially.
A fully loaded G35 coupe can actually sticker for more than a GTO. And dealers are selling every single one they can get for sticker...and without rebates. Even one year old, used, G35 coupes are in such demand that you're not going to pay much less for them than a new GTO.....actually with all the incentives, you'll probably pay less for the new GTO. And yet, the waiting list is at the Infiniti dealer. It's about customer demand.

Again.... price, availability and demand. The GTO and G35 are for completely different markets.
I don't know jg....I think they are smack dam in the same market. And if we believe Pontiac, the GTO competes with the M3. Also, I don't have the figures at my fingertips....but I believe M3 sales figures are up this year also.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro

For the love of all that is good and pure....

NO ONE cares if a car is 3" longer that this 1.5" shorter than that!!!!! If the package looks nice, is reasonably priced, and the size is even in the right ballpark, it'll sell.

IMO, a Camaro should be what it has been, size-wise, for every year it existed except for the first 3.... I have room to move on what is acceptable... I don't want a 1972 Impala sized Camaro, but I don't want a Civic sized one either. Saying 'I'll only accept x.x" to y.y" ' is just nuts. SO, if the car is ONE INCH longer it's ruined???

If you think GTO is not selling beause people think it is TOO BIG, you are SMOKING CRACK. My wife, my father-in-law, and some people at work keep telling me they can't believe I got such a SMALL CAR ... I am constantly DEFENDING MYSELF by saying it's not that small!!

GTO sizing is VERY acceptible for a new Camaro... as long as they can lower it. The GTO does sit too upright for a Camaro, IMO.... but other than that, the dimensions are fine, and there is plenty of interior space for a sport coupe.

No, I really don't care... within reason.

Like I said, I don't think a "Camaro" can be the size of a '72 Impala, but I don't think it can be the size of a Civic either...

99.9999999999999999999999999999% of people who shop for a pony car are not going to select a Camaro vs a Mustang, or vise versa, based on a difference a few inches of length between the two....

I can tell you first hand, I personally know, exponentially more than .000000000000000000000000000001% of ponycar buyers, did just that.
