The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
The G35 coupe is about the perfect size for a new Camaro
Wheelbase 112.2
Overall length 182.2
Overall width 71.5
Overall height 54.8
Track (front/rear) 60.4/60.6
Curb weight
G35 Coupe 3,486 pounds
G35 Coupe 6MT 3,512 pounds
weight is a little high for the size, but I guess that is what you get if you want IRS
If I could get a Camaro of this size I'd be willing to wait one extra year for the Kappa/Beta, make it 3400lbs too.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
what was the 3rd gen?
like 187
i think that's exactly what i find comfortable (heightwise too but i have no idea on that)
from what the g35 looks like, it would probably be suitable in size

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
Might be OK lengthwise, width-wise, but height-wise - its cowl is too high. Out of all gens, I like 3rd gen proportions the best. IZ got me sold on that one
Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
See, even the small G35 is above teh 3400 lbs limit, and thats a pretty small car.
I expect to be about 186 inches long with a longer wheel base for Zeta. A sharp rake to the windshield, and it would be nice to see a sleek fast back design.

What he said, something that size would be a hell of a ponycar for us
Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
I'd say anywhere between the G35 and the GTO is damn near perfect
GTO's numbers:
Wheelbase, inches 109.8
Overall length, inches 189.8
Body width, inches 72.5
Overall height, inches 54.9
Front track width, inches 61.4
Rear track width, inches 62.1
Id probably go for the wheel base of the G35 and the overall length of the GTO. width of GTO as well.

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, some sanity in the face of the big-fat-huge-overweight-Camaro-mafia movement.
I think those dimensions are just about perfect for a modern day Camaro! Yeah, the FM platform is alittle heavy....because it's designed for coupes, sportscars, sedans and crossover/SUV's.....but size-wise....RIGHT ON.
I'd call a Kappa/Beta V8 Camaro at around 3,400 lbs also. I can't imagine a base V6 Zeta at less than 3,600 lbs.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
These are the dimensions for the Velite:
Height (in / mm):
52 / 1318
Length (in / mm):
186 / 4716
Width (in / mm):
75.6 / 1921.5
Wheelbase (in / mm):
114.7 / 2915
Track
Front (in / mm):
65 / 1651
Rear (in / mm):
66 / 1676
Weight (lbs / kg): (estimated)
3450 / 1565
And that weight is with heavy chrome 20's and 21's. throw on some smaller and lighter wheels could drop the weight some, as well as remove the turbo and any other techno gadgets the concept had. that and the fact it is a convertible. so a coupe v6 camaro could possibly be 3300 pounds. I think if u lower the velite an inch or 2 it would give a much sportier look. Quick chop job.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
112" wheelbase?
Hell no!
We finally got the mammoth 108" wheelbase of the 1st and 2nd gen Camaros down to 101" in the 3rd and 4th gens and now you guys want bigger?
Granted the overall length is smaller, but we're talking about Camaros here... not the Dodge Intrepid.

Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
Larger wheel base means larger interior space, as well as better stability in hanlidng and ability to spread out the weight.
Beta and Zeta both have over 110 inches in wheel base. It also give the car a cleaner look with teh wheels pushed out to the corners.

My answer is, it doesn't. I'll agree that makes a nice car, but its not a Camaro. Everyone here talks about how they want a 5th gen only if its worthy of a Camaro badge. Those dimensions you just listed are NOT worthy of a Camaro badge. Not only would it be the smallest Camaro of all time, but also the longest wheelbase and tallest height.
Again, that would make a great chevy coupe, but DEFINATELY not a great Camaro. Your image of the Camaro is extremely skewed by what you WANT it to be. If you have any influence on what underlies the 5th gen then I am beyond terrified.

Then they want that solid feel and rigid chassis (==> extra weight to reinforce, especially with T-tops).
I think the Mazda RX-8, with a longer nose for a V8 is a much better model for the new Camaro. Oh wait, that's a Torana!
Re: The perfect size for the 5th gen Camaro
Some of you are crazy. The Camaro belongs in no way G35 sized. G35 dimensions are not Camaro, the GTO is more Camaro LOL.
Out of all Camaros I feel Third Gens had the best compromise of all in size and room. Just sit in each Gen and see. It was extremely sporty but the rake wasn't too crazy which helped roominess, it was a hatch, exterior was not too little, not too big, and was comfortable. Seating position was good and the 6-way power could put you up more if you wanted. (5th Gen should have optional dual power seats) Forget back seats in all Camaros so far, the same for their competition. Almost anyone could fit in front with decent room left. The early Third Gen Z28's only came in at 187.8". (less than the new M*stang) What actually made IROC-Z's and later Z28's 192.0"/192.6" was the slightly bigger bumpers and the much extended front lower GFX piece, every other panel was obviously virtually the same as the early cars. It's about finding a medium and not trying to press on a little Camaro because of some car that has nothing to do with it. Why don't we just make it the size of a 5.0 LX?! Wait, lets make it smaller yet! Come on.
At the least the 5th Gen should be about 185.5" and 187.5" at the most, but I'd be fine if it was bigger, even to 190". Wheelbase should be about 106" or 108" and it should be 50.5 at the least and about 52.5" high at the absolute most. Width should be at least 72.5" and 74.5" at the most. Some of you do not want a Camaro, you want a tiny car with "Camaro" on it and a V8. If the car is higher or smaller than a 1st Gen in any way, I for one, will be really pissed at that. That's not what the Camaro is. Especially at a time when the usually bigger Camaro has a 188" M*stang out there which doesn't look big itself. See which gets called the chick car now.
