I'd say that a 20-something who drives a custom painted Escalade EXT rollin' on $15K of 30 inch spinners and thumpin' with $7K of subwoofers has a major risk of theft - and a disproportionate impact on theft statistics. If you're a 60 something retiree in the same car, you're exposure to autotheft is too slight to justify $16.95/month.

Why don't you dig us up some report that shows that Escaldes are only stolen when they have 22's or spinners or huge stereos on them!!

I guess you've never wondered why your average aftermarket "tire 'n rim" store is fortified? Rims are a BIG draw for thieves.

As far as STATISTICS, you'd have a hard time proving that a $16.95/month OnStar will do anything to prolong you life?

I'd agree that those items are "draws" for theives. However, stateing that ONLY Escaldes with those items are stolen is just stupid, and then if that's the case, it doesn't matter... they are still stolen.

I'll email OnStar and ask if they have any statistics availble... just for you since you're such a wonderful person.

As far as doing ANYTHING TO PROLONG LIFE... why don't you actually read this thread instead of just spouting off anything that runs out of your head. I already gave a real example of my father-in-law's uncle surviving a heart attack because of OnStar. He'd be dead right now if they didn't have it.

Whether you like OnStar or not, if you think there are not situations where OnStar can and will save your life, you are an absolute fool.

I didn't state that ONLY Escalades with big rims are stolen. I just said that it was a major risk factor.

I'm sure that OnStar is an unbiased source of information on all things OnStar related.

Do you know the meaning of the word "anecdote?" Your heart warming father-in-law story is an anecdote. I'm talking about real data with statistical significance - and not from an interested party like OnStar either.

There are situations wearing a helmet can save your life, but most people don't wear one 24 hours a day.

Earlier in this very thread, you said that modern cars are not stolen because of key chips and the like. Are you now backtracking?

I'm sure that OnStar is an unbiased source of information on all things OnStar related.
You know what? You are right. Since YOU are the one saying OnStar doesn't save any lives, YOU should be the one to go find some information to back it up. I've already given a lot of examples including a real world personal account.

Thanks for being a "heart warming" sarcastic jackass when it comes to the life of someone in my family. You're a real winner. Regardless, it's a real example of a life being saved by OnStar.

Maybe the next time something happens, it'll be your family, and maybe your magical Nissan Armada will go into auto pilot mode and save your life.... or, then again, maybe you'll just die in a drainage ditch off the side of an overpass... who knows?

Autotheft just isn't the sort of problem it once was. If a Lojack-type service (like OnStar) was ever neccessary, that time was 10-years ago. Today, OnStar's Lojack-style locator function isn't worth $16.95/month.

I'm saying that the odds of OnStar "saving your life" are too slim to justify the $16.95/month or any of the privacy ramifications.

Does Darth Zed frequently find himself "in a drainage ditch off the side of an overpass?"

PLEASE....as if you're an unbiased source when it comes to OnStar, or anything GM for that matter. Your unexplained hatred of all things General Motors is well documented on this site.

Making light of a personal experience that Darth Xed and a loved one had puts you squarely in the Jackass category by anyone's definition. Not wanting OnStar or believing in the virtues of it are acceptable....acting like a low-life isn't.....

$16.95 is not that much money... since you have the money to buy a Nissan Armada (riiiiiiight) , it shouldn't be much of anything to you either. Of course, since you can't afford to buy a digital camera, and no one you know owns a digital camera, or it's too much work to operate a digital camera, I don't expect you to be credible at all. Come to think of it, how are you getting on the Internet? Do you have a few study halls at your high school that you get on the Internet during?

Again, for $16.95 a month, my life or my family's life is worth it. Again, $16.95 a month is nothing in reality.

Yawn.
Thank you for verifying the jackass portion of my post.

First of all, it's "Xed" with an X. Second, I'm talking about you, and it's a hypothetical situation. I guess you can comprehend stuff like this... If things always went perfectly on the roads, there would never be a speeding ticket, let alone fatalities on the road.

Thanks.

It's amazing how you can have people on two sides of issues totally disagree, yet argue, even if it's a lot, in an adult fashion.... as I think happened for the majority of this thread...

Then you have people like redzed....

I guess you can say I've got a big new SUV because I don't shell out $16.95/month for every useless service I'm offered.

Don't you have a 2004 GTO? Do you really have OnStar on your car? I didn't know that last year's Goat had OnStar. "Come to think of it, how are you getting on the Internet? Do you have a few study halls at your high school that you get on the Internet during?"

I made the "yawn" comment because because self rightious ranting makes me sleepy.

LOL. ROFL..... So you were able to buy your "dream SUV" by saving $16.95 a month? So, you should be in line for your next car in what... the year 2289...??

Show me where I said I have OnStar on the GTO, please. I said I had it on the 01 Monte Carlo SS, the 02 Monte Carlo SS, and I have it on the 04 Grand Prix GTP.

I wish the GTO came with OnStar, but unfortunately it doesn't yet. It was actully a factor not to buy the GTO, but the pro's outweighed the con's.

Again, it would really be nice if you actually read what people posted before blabbing some useless drool. Instead of wasting time like this, go take pictures of you imaginary Armada for us. (Don't worry, just take a picture of your 1983 Caprice and we'll all pretend it's an Aramada for you so you feel good)

If being concerned and happy that OnStar saved my father-in-laws uncle's life is "self rightous", then I guess I'm guilty. Of course, since that really has nothing to do with being "self rightous", you again make no sense. Ask your high school counsellor to schedule you for an English and Grammer class next semester.
