Yet, somehow that doesn't seem any worse since the driver would have to make a conscience decision to stay on the brakes instead of quickly lifting off and reapplying
.I think even in sue happy America this recall from Lexus would not be considered an issue UNLESS for some reason the passenger had unbelted in mid drive (reach in the back for something) and tried to rebelt and couldn't and then an accident occurred. Although to get that specific set of events would be really rare and likely not to occur.

Natural instinct when your brakes aren't apply sufficient pressure is to press harder, not let off. Heck... even in those that know what's happening, it's going to take at least a second or two to realize what just happened, let go, and reapply pressure. In many situations that could easily double your stopping distance even if you only took, say, 1.5 seconds to react.

Of course one question is, What does a Chevy truck recall have to do with a Lexus recall?So whether or not tonloc was implying that, I felt that mentioning the silverado recall, which affected me directly and even scared me good a couple of times, was a good way of saying - I think this Lexus recall is less significant of a safety issue than what happened to me in my silverado, yet I've never mentioned that before (and as we found out I guess I mentioned it once in a thread about it)

Every manufacturer has their recalls.. some are serious, some are not. I think some people like to champion Lexus and Toyota recalls because some of their owners have this bullet-proof, Toyota-can-do-no-wrong mentality -- which frustrates the heck out of a domestic enthusiast.
Everybody's heard of the GM, Piston-slap issue, right? How about the Tundra V8 piston-slap issue?

I think Toyota's reputation helps them here, along with the fact that they simply don't sell as many Tundra's as GM does Silverado's, Tahoes, and Suburbans. But I think the bigger issue is that some people hold domestic brands to a different standard than they do the import brands -- but the domestics made their bed in this area. By their own admitting, they've had years of substandard products - and they are now paying the price for it. It's something they can overcome, but don't fool yourself - it isn't going to happen over the coarse of a few model years. It very well may take a decade or longer.
