Olds 3.5 V6 and 4.0 V8...

What's gonna happen to these engines? I think their too early to retire and can be put into some GM cars that really need them (Buick comes to mind.) I think either in the Soltice should work.
Last I remember, the Bonnneville SSEi? was going to get the 4.0, though it was stroked to 4.4 liters.

I actually saw something that said the Bonneville GXP was going to have the 4.6. I thought that was kinda weird. I am guessing that the 3.5 will just be discontinued due to the new generation of engines that are comming out.

The 4.0L v8 is growing to 4.4L and going into the Bonnie GXP, the 3.5L will be droped

why would you want a 215HP DOHC 3.5L when you could have the new DOHC 260HP 3.6L V6

I sure hope the HF 3.6 lasts longer than GM's other DOHC V6 attempts. They couldn't have come close to recouping their investments on the short-lived TDC 3.4 and Olds 3.5.

The Bonne will be getting a version of the 4.6 Northstar in the 285hp range, not a 4.4 as the show car. The 3.5 will be discontinued.

Yep. Both.

Anyway, yeah the 3.5 sounds weak now that I think about it, but wouldn't a mild cam change raise the hp? Oh well, it doesn't matter now that the 3.6 is in existance.

I do hope the 4.0 stays, it's done well in CART racing, and a well engineered V8.

But I always thought the 3.6 is just an extension and reworking of the 3.5?

The TDC actually lasted for 7 years. I think that is a pretty good life compared to some engines, CFI, CPI...

Burmite "But I always thought the 3.6 is just an extension and reworking of the 3.5? "

No the 3.5 is a 90* v6 and the 3.6 is a 60* v6. The new family of 60* DOHC probably has more in common with the TDC 3.4 than most other motors.

The HF 3.6 is an all new 60* V6. The Shortstar was a 3/4 Northstar, and it was a 90* V6.

I thought that the shortstar was based on the northstar which has roots in the DOHC 3.4L which was based in the old OHV 2.8
